  • pcos and need advice to start

    Hello,

I was diagnosed with pcos about a month ago and just yesterday at my followup appointment my Dr. said do atkins because carbs are poison to me. I went to the book store and bought the Dr. Atkins new Diet Revolution book and read though to induction last night. I ate 2 fried eggs and bacon this morning for breakfast. Am I on the right track to start? Who has some ideas for me. I went from eating healthy low fat, nice fruits and such a since March and now I am told it is not good for ME. I am so confused and just want to drop this weight so I can have a baby with my hubby. We had a rough year, he is in remission from pancreatic cancer and all we want is a baby. My Dr. said not to do it until I lose the weight because I am pre-diabetic because of the stupid pcos and I would certanly have gestational diabetes. Any help is apriciated. Thank you all!

Please dont move this to the pcos section

    Welcome to ADBB!

Yes, eggs and bacon is a start.

What do you have planned for lunch, dinner, and snacks?

If you need ideas, check out:

Atkins Food and Recipes - Atkins Diet

You'll be able, most likely, to have "nice fruits" again when you get to OWL.

Were you losing weight with eating healthy low fat?

Thank you girls. I was losing weight with the low fat, but like 1-2 lbs a month and often it would come back. I work out with a trainer 3 times a week at the gym and I hit the gym on my off trainer days most of the time too. My hubby is going to make our garage a gym for me, I am so excited.

Sounds like you are off to a good start.
I don't know who decided that fruits and grains were so darn healthy when in fact they are not. So if you have read the book you know it is a lot healthier for us to regulate our bloodsugars with protein and fat and get our nutrients from vegetables (and most vegetables have more nutrients than fruits)
Welcome to ADBB. Glad that you are off.
Hope the baby will be reality for you soon

What veggies should I stay away from in induction. Potatoes and alike are obvious. But can I have brocoli, onions, mushrooms? For lunch I was going to have a peice of mahi mahi with some brocoli on the side.

              So you have the book?
Check the induction chapter (Chapter 11) where Atkins lists all the vegetables acceptable those are the ones you should eat and you should eat 3 cups a day. Eat a good variety of them.

Broccoli is a great veggie from the other veggie induction legal veggies.

since you have the book look in CHapter 11 for the induction foods. the veggies are divided into something called salad veggies and other veggies. You can have 3 cups of just the salad veggies or you can eat 1 cup of the other veggies and 2 cups of those salad veggies each day.

Re: pcos and need advice to start

I too have PCOS and did Atkins once and got down to a goal weight of 115. My cycles became regular again and I suppose that I might have been able to get pregnant but ended up with a surprise adoption instead. I just restarted myself 05/11/2010 and have a lot of work to go but induction is always the hardest but the program does work as long as you remain diligent. Did you talk to your doctor about metformin? I was given that and it helped a lot.

Thanks everyone. Yes I have the book and am reading it. I just got
it last night so I am a little unprepared with food and snacks at work today. The worst part is I just spend $100 on Monday at the supermarket for the foods I thought were good for me. Ahhh more money down the drain. Yes also my Dr. Put me on Metformin a few weeks ago too.

Can you be more specific? It might not be a total waste.

some of the veggies I can still use. I also got whole wheat breads, english muffins and such. Yep all no nos.

The laughing cow cheese, unless it has added sugar, isn't a deal breaker.

Can you return some of the boxed things?

And if you're going to get rid of things, please remember your local food pantry.

I guess I can return some of the crackry stuff. And I will give the other fruits and stuff to people here at work.
