      Yes, it is "safe".

If fat bothers you, you can make lower fat choices.

"Use fish, poultry, lean meats, and low fat cheese (in moderation) and lots of vegetables. Avoid creamy salad dressing; instead use olive oil and vinegar or a mustard based dressing. Eat nuts only in moderation. Don't fry foods, and use lean cuts of meat. Stay away from processed meats such as bacon and sausage. Supplementing with unsweetened, smooth textured, orange-flavored Metamucil or Benefiber daily will help bulk your stools. Take 1 tablespoon in a full glass of water and drink immediately."

I have no gallbladder.. and I have been doing Atkins now for almost a year...and have had some success.. the only problem I encounter, and remember its different with everyone... but some forms of fat really bothers me.. like chicken skin, or alot of bacon or sausage...I like Atkinsgal just said, never fry anything, or eat alot of animal fat..Creamy dressings do not bother me or nuts, thankfully!!!! but mayo stalls me big time.. so give it a whirl...

Re: atkins safe for those without a gallbladder?

Had my gall bladder taken out while on Atkins. No issues at all here. I eat high fat (65%-70%) of my daily intake. I used to have certain foods that triggered my gall bladder attacks (nuts, pork, eggs) before it was taken out and I was sensitive to those for a few months after surgery, but since then, I've been fine. I told my surgeon I was on Atkins and eating high fat and he said I could go back to how I had been eating.

One difference is I've lost my "taste" for pork, not sure if that was due to the removal and my sensitivity I had to it. Maybe now my brain just decided it didn't like it (bad memories).

I haven't had a gallbladder since I was sixteen. I've been on this plan for two and half months and haven't had any problems with it. Good luck!
