  • New to the Board with 100+ pounds to lose...ugg!

    Hello Everyone,

Well I'll try not to bore you all with the details but basically this is my story is brief. Married, 2 kids ages 4 and 1, work full time, will have 2 dogs in about a week, gained all this weight in the past 7 years, and finally I am a depressed emotional eater. :wave Not to bad ey?

I never did the Atkins with my full heart into it but now being a wopping 237 pounds I'm realizing that if I don't do something now at the age of 31 I am going to pay dearly in the next 10-20 years of my life. My medical condition isn't that great. I have severe asthma, hole in my heart, and knee pains. Lets not forget to mention bad heartburn and sleep apnea. I know I have a slow thyroid but it's not slow enough to be put on medication. Thyroid runs in my family so I get tested every year.

I know if I don't keep myself in check this is all going to be very costly for me in the future. Plus I'm 31 and feel as if I am 80 years old. It's not good at all. I will admit that I am a CARB ADDICT and a very emotional eater.

I look forward to using the support of this board and hope that I too like others will be able to post my before and afters.

    Thank you
    Christine

HI Christine! I know exactly how you feel. I came here January 2004 with 190 pounds to lose. The task seemed impossible, but with the help of the Century Club (you'll find the forum on this board) and other ADBB members I have been able to lose 95 pounds! You will find others at the Century Club that have lost 150 or more pounds!

Make sure to come by the Century Club and introduce yourself to us. We understand your needs are different since you are in this for the "long haul" and a 100 plus pounds isn't lost in just a couple months. You will find great support there.

      Welcome aboard!

          You can do it!

You can do it Christine! I was an enormous 310lbs at age 23 and this was only 3 1/2 months ago! Now I'm at 240lb and have never felt better. I would have never thought that it could be done without pills or surgery if I hadn't tried it and succeed. Determination, exercise, and encouragement are the keys that have helped me along the way. Hopefully they will drive you also. :hug

Thank you all for your kind words. Everyone just seems so supportive and helpful on this board. :icondance Unfortunately this week wasn't the week for me. I ended up getting very sick with this cold that I got thankfully from my smallest child. I had to eat soup because nothing else would stay down. I am on a steroid and antibiotic treatment now and I do feel much better. So I am going to start tomorrow fresh.

I went to the market and got eggs so that I can hard boil them. I figured that would be a great choice when I am stuck and need something quick to eat. I broiled 2 streaks so that I can put them in the fridge to eat. I have my sardines too. I have some salad for tomorrows lunch. I am ready to take this on. One question I do have is can you eat like the dried meat they sell such as beef jerky I guess they are called. They are so easy to snack on and I want to know if I can do that.

I am going to re-read the induction phase of the book again tonight for motivation.

            Thanks again everyone!

First, Welcome to ADBB!! I am very glad you have joined our family of Atkineers. Just remember this is WOL, and those pounds will come off.

About your question, most jerky is marinated with sugar solution. There are some that aren't, but you have to be extremely selective about it. One of my personal snack foods was Old Wisconsin Beef Sticks, which are 0g with neglible sugar in the ingredient list. There are a number of good jerky recipes in the archives here if you search for them.

Hey Christine! Welcome! :wave You are among friends here who understand as you have probably already figured out!

I just want to tell you that you can do this! I didn't believe that I ever could lose a significant amount of weight( You probably guessed that by my sign in name...I was skeptical!) but now I am down 88.5 pounds! With about 50 to go.

If I had to give you some tips, it would be these:

                  * First of all, read the book and follow it to a "T". I heard that alot when I first signed on and it was the best advice.
                  * Second, kick all forms of pop, diet included, to the curb! Remove it from your life permanately! Even after weight loss, our bodies don't need the ingredients in these beverages. It will be hard at first, but you will begin to get along great without it! Replace pop with plenty of water. Add fresh squeezed lemon juice to your H2O for a little flavor.
                  * Exercise! Even if it is only a tiny bit! As you feel yourself progressing you will feel so proud! You are a strong woman and you can do it!
                  * Watch out for little cheats, "here and there." I thought I was only sampling little bites of something here and there tahtr wouldn't matter and it resulted in a stall in my loss.
                  * Get your blood chemistry checked so you can compare before and after numbers. This way you will be able to gauge progress both inside and outside of your body. As well, measure yourself and keep track of your inches lost as well as weight in pounds. These numbers give me motivation when I see them change.
                  * Finally, try to visit the board daily! These people here are the best on earth! They are the most supportive and loving group of people around.

I will be watching the board for your progress! I am rootin' for you! :wave

                  Blessings,

(And regardless of my sign in name...I am beginning to believe "THIN IS POSSIBLE!)
