Thought I would drop in and intoduce myself.
I'm a 35 yo single mother with 2 kids at home, plus currently going back to school. I've heard about the Atkins diet for a while now, and saw some results with a couple of people, but wondered if it would be right for me.
In the past 2 years, I've been diagnosed with Insulin Resistance, I have problems with depression, and even recently, it hurts just to walk across the store to get the grocery shopping done.
After being weighed at the doctors yesterday at a whopping 288, I decided to go grab this book myself and jump into the diet. Currently, I've set the induction date for June 2nd.
The biggest motivator I have right now is the fact that I watched my mother go through so many of the *fad* diets, and ended up dying in 1984 at the age of 46. She weighed over 450 lbs when she passed away, and now I'm determined not to have that happen to me. I was only 15 then, and already was battling with the weight then, and it has just gotten worse over the years. The hardest part was knowing that she died a month after hearing her first grandchild was on the way ( my sister-in-law had just found out she was pregnant).
My 2 children are precious to me, and one of them are now starting that battle with weight, and the hope is, as I learn on this diet how to eat healthier, it will help them learn as well. The one that has the problems might have the chance to grow into his weight.
I would more than welcome anyone that could point me in the right direction as I go through this. At least here, I feel as I'm not alone, since I don't have access to the people I saw that lost the weight on this diet.
