  • Hello from Idaho

Thought I would drop in and intoduce myself.

I'm a 35 yo single mother with 2 kids at home, plus currently going back to school. I've heard about the Atkins diet for a while now, and saw some results with a couple of people, but wondered if it would be right for me.

In the past 2 years, I've been diagnosed with Insulin Resistance, I have problems with depression, and even recently, it hurts just to walk across the store to get the grocery shopping done.

After being weighed at the doctors yesterday at a whopping 288, I decided to go grab this book myself and jump into the diet. Currently, I've set the induction date for June 2nd.

The biggest motivator I have right now is the fact that I watched my mother go through so many of the *fad* diets, and ended up dying in 1984 at the age of 46. She weighed over 450 lbs when she passed away, and now I'm determined not to have that happen to me. I was only 15 then, and already was battling with the weight then, and it has just gotten worse over the years. The hardest part was knowing that she died a month after hearing her first grandchild was on the way ( my sister-in-law had just found out she was pregnant).

My 2 children are precious to me, and one of them are now starting that battle with weight, and the hope is, as I learn on this diet how to eat healthier, it will help them learn as well. The one that has the problems might have the chance to grow into his weight.

I would more than welcome anyone that could point me in the right direction as I go through this. At least here, I feel as I'm not alone, since I don't have access to the people I saw that lost the weight on this diet.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

congrats on deciding to start atkins and finding this great board- however why wait til june to start?- if you start now you will have already lsot some weight nad would be that much closer to your goal, who knows, if you wait til then to start something may come up that prevents y ou from starting then you'll be tempted to stay well ill start next week, and that though adn behavior could just continue

The only reason I'm waiting until June is that I need to get a few things in place first, including cleaning out the cupboards and buying what I need to make this succeed. Also, because of some of my medical problems, I wanted to get in to see the doctor before I start to make sure it's tracked healthy.

              Welcome to the board, kittytigger!

You don't have to wait to start. Give the food in the cupboards away to a food pantry or some other charity. I agree about seeing your doctor, but if he/she isn't at least willing to let you try it, then I'd see about a second opinion. The health improvement made by the people just here on this board are astounding.

              Good luck!
