Steph, you go girl! What a great way to look at it. I guess that makes me 8.3% of the way to my goal. Woohoo!
My recommendation is bring beef jerky with you. Loads of beef jerky. I do that on flights and it helps. Also bring some bottled water, and instead of getting that Diet Coke get another bottled water. If you can make a small single serving size omlette the night before just grab it and microwave it for a minute before you leave, pop it in some tin foil wrap to keep warm and eat at the airport while you wait in line for security or on the way to the airport. Also...and the zealots in here will kill me for saying this....bring NUTS. I know its not on induction but its lower carbs and high in protein and won't make your blood sugar go..well, nuts. Don't have tons, but spread them out throughout the trip.
I hate to say this but perhaps you need to be firm, and I mean VERY firm with his family from the minute you walk into their house. I have family-in-law like that and we've had to do the same thing. Bring a list of foods you can eat and give it to them, or e-mail it to them ahead of time.
Let them know in no uncertain terms that you love them, and you truly appreciate their kind hospitality, but if you eat food not on your diet you will have to start all over and you can't keep doing that because its unhealthy and its unfair to you. You are trying to become a healthier person, not just lose weight, and you would appreciate it if they would support you in this battle by not asking you to eat items you cannot. They are more than welcome to make them and eat them but you just cannot put that roll in your mouth and it has nothing to do with them or the food's quality or taste, but rather this heartfelt desire to continue and succeed in this diet to become a healthier person.
Then you have to stick to it hun. Let them get upset, let them get hurt. How is that going to affect you getting healthy?? Why is their momentary upset over you not eating that cake more important that this commitment to yourself? Use guilt if you have to. Play a guilt game...cry...ask why they can't understand that you just want to get healthy...why are they so determined to force you to fail??? I don't know about Peruvian families but guilt always works with Italian families. You've got to protect yourself. Think of yourself..its ok...honest!!!
Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately I can't eat nuts at all, and as for the water instead of diet coke, the caffeine is the only reason I am still awake by the time I take my second flight lol. So that is a must!
I just did my grocery shopping and I bought some chicken bites to take on the plane. Actually I bought a couple of trays so I can eat them on the drive to the airport too lol. I literally pull up at the front and go straight through security - it's less than 5 minutes from my car to being through security (small airports win, plus I dont have to check in!) so it's all time saving.
As for his family, trust me, I've tried - for 6 years, and nothing. They take it personally, and actually get in a bad mood with me and refuse to speak to me for the rest of the time I'm there. It gets awkward.
Thanks for your suggestions! I guess I just have to brave this one, BIG time!
