Oh, sorry, from your post Fiddleheads/morels and then "they're $75 a pound" I couldnt' tell which one you were referring to, for some reason I assumed the Fiddleheads. That's why I was surprised to find them so cheap on another site.

I've been toying with the idea of growing my own fiddleheads. The edible fern species is the "ostrich fern", which is available through some nurseries and gardening catalogs.
Anyhow, one of the local supermarket sells fiddleheads during fiddlehead season for about $2.45 a pound. Considering there's very little waste (you don't have to peel, trim, etc. the fiddleheads), it's not outrageously expensive.

That's CHEAP! I would definatley pay that for them so I could try them! I've never seen them in our grocery stores though, and I spend a lot of time in the veggie sections! urplequ: Well, if someone puts up a reminder next year during the season, I might be able to hunt some down at Wholefoods...I'd really like to try them.

Im sorry, but fiddlehead ferns are nasty tasting, worse than eggplant in my most humble opinion. Now morels, thems good eatin.
She is talking about the Korean ferns that are harvested here! they are totally different and you have to par boil them..stinky ...but I love them in kim chee or soup....Desert the ones they are talking about are mainly on the East coast and taste just like asparagus I think! only a little more green....
