  • All the "No-No" Ingredients

    Hey Everyone,

    I've always wanted to compile a list of all the "no-no" ingredients that would cause us Atkineers to put a product back on the shelf (or at least think twice about it!). One of the biggest challenges I had when starting Atkins was trying to sort out which were the good ingredients, and which were the bad, and would have loved to have a list back then!

    Does a list of this sort already exist anywhere around these parts?

    If not, wanna start one?

    I always just went w/ the things that were o.k. and if I saw anything listed that was not on the acceptable list, the product went back on the shelf.

      What I mean is ingredients like corn syrup, or modified corn starch, and so on.

        I know. But the way I did it was, "corn syrup and modified corn starch" are not on the allowed food list so that means they are unacceptable therefore I'd put it back.

        Its the same thing as what you're saying only in reverse. I just photocopied the list from the book and carried it with me in my purse. Only things with ingredients that were listed on that that list went into my cart.

            It isn't just the ingredients however, but how much of them there are, and what stage you are on.

            I am in pre-maintenance, so I don't bug out over trace corn syrup, sugars, or starch amounts. It all depends how far up or down the list they are.

            Here are some to watch out for though:

            Corn Syrup (and HFCS)
            Barley Malt
            Sucrose
            Dextrose
            Fructose
            Lactose
            Maltodextrin
            anything ending in "starch"
            any grain flour
