  • Can you "freeze" turkey or chicken?

    I was wondering....

Can you freeze chicken or turkey and thaw it in the micro
and it come out tasting good?

I wanted to cook me a whole turkey and then freeze some
pieces for later so I would have it "in no time"...but didn't
know how it would turn out--same for chicken.

    Anyone know?

P.S. sorry-I'm not very knowledgeable about cooking

I don't see why not? i actually buy frozen precooked/packaged chicken breast slices sometimes (great on a caesar). though it doesn't taste as good as fresh cooked. i would make sure it's cooled and dry before you freeze so it doesn ice up, and try to wrap it well or put in an airtight bag to avoid freezer burn. You may not want to freeze really big pieces either as they may not nuke well (ie: the edges may cook too fast and become tough before the middle warms up). probably best to defrost overnight before heating, but i'm sure it can go straight from the freezer.

Re: Can you "freeze" turkey or chicken?

I have found that freezing cooked chicken or turkey meat, esp the breast pieces much too dry for me, even if I re-heat a little all covered in the microwave I find some of the water crystals separate during the freezing process and I don't like the taste

But give Jen's suggestion a try, if it worked for her, then why not?

Usually if I do freeze cooked chicken/turkey, it's usually frozen in a soup, casserole or some sauce that goes with the meat so when I reheat it, it stays moisturised.

I think poultry works better frozen if you put it in a sauce or recipe ...like if you make curries make big batches and freeze them ..you can freeze precooked chicken or turkey by itself but it will not be as good as if you did it in the dish .....hugs!
