I am not really "into" kitchen gadgets... I mean I have the usualy appliances, mixer, food processor, blender and some great antique things I have just been given or found at thrift stores...I love a garlic press but really use my mortar and pestel for a lot of stuff ....but about a year ago I posted that I was searching for a garlic slicer ...and finally I found one!!!! Whoooo hooo it is pretty cool I used a grater in the past to slice garlic and I can do it pretty quickly with a knife of course but I just really wanted one!!! So I got it ...for $5 it is a score and I can toss it in the dishwasher....so what is your favorite really not needed gadget?

Nursey, is there a difference between a "garlic slicer" and a "garlic press"? Cuz I really like my garlic press! And I really love the dried garlic from Canada!!

I used to love my rotary blade potato peeler, but since Atkins, it's rusting away in the drawer! Now my favs are my scale and microwave, I guess, although they are definitely not in the 'not needed' category.

            1. Garlic press--not really necessary but it's faster than using the knife.

            2. Egg slicer--again, not necessary. The one I have also has an egg -wedger. I also use the slicer to slice mushrooms.

            3. wooden lemon reamer--not terribly necessary but it does a good job of getting all the juice out of a lemon or lime.

              Lemon Reamer

              Apple Slicer

              Garlic Press

              Vitamix

Saladacco Spinner. It turns zucchini, squash, carrots and other veggies into ribbons, or angel hair pasta. I spiral it, and serve it raw with garlic and oil, fresh basil, diced tomatoes, salt, pepper, etc. This has to be one of my favorite gadgets of all time.

Barb the slicer slices garlic and the smasher smashes it!!! LOLOLOLOL ......omg you had to ask didnt you??? I will send more garlic

What Barb is talking about is the most awesome dried sliced garlic I buy at the Canadian Superstore! I hesitated thinking .."I love fresh garlic, I grow fresh garlic why do I need this stuff?" well it is NOT the same and wonderful to have around...comes in huge bags and only like 2 bucks Canadian ...so if you are Canadian or going to Canada go to the East Indian section of the Superstore and you will find it...Barb and I can eat it like snacks out of the bag..but people would rather we didn't!!!

                        • Love my garlic press - the oils it releases are fab
                        • Love my Graham Kerr chopping blade (free gift with some other gizmo)
                        • Love my wooden lemon reamer too
                        • Best of all, love having my grandmothers cast iron potato ricer. Used now for cauliflower. There is something nostalgic and comforting about using the tool that has lasted several generations amongst the women in our household!

I know what you mean kinsy..when I was eating toast I loved using my old cloth wired covered toaster that has the sides come down and you have to flip the toast...it took longer but makes perfect toast....it just feels so right....
I love a garlic peeler my mother had one when I visited it was a soft plastic tube you put your garlic in and roll it and skin just pops off.....
there are some cool gadgets I just am trying hard not to fill anymore space..but there is always something I find either new or used that I think hmmmmm can I use this for something...right now I am looking in thrift stores for fondue pots I am going to have a fondue party in Sept I think and really want to do it old school style with all the 60's-70's style pots ..I have an old Sunset (like Southern Living mag) that is from the early 70's that shows a classic fondue party ...for what it costs for 2 people to eat at the "Melting Pot" I am sure I can do 20 people up very nicely with fondue!!!! so you guys I am going to be asking for low carb fondue recipes so please if you see some save them for me? or go ahead and post them....

You gotta do the chocolate and strawberry fondue, YUM!!! I saw your mom's garlic peeler tube and I thought that was "da bomb"!

Britt and I were skiing in Northern Italy one winter and we crossed over into Zermott, Switzerland via a trail on the Matterhorn, and had a classic fondue lunch one day with some other skiers. We had the best time and the best memory -- eating outdoors in the cold with the fondue, in sight of the fabulous Matterhorn!!!!!!!
