  • Canola question

This has probably been answered before, so if someone could redirect me to a helpful thread ...

I am wondering about canola oil and whether I should use it or get rid of it. My (German) edition of DANDR doesn't list canola among the good fats, but not among the bad either. I've read at some places that canola is a good EFA source and in some that canola oil should be avoided. The latest low carb craze over here lists canola as wonder drug, which I have noted with some scepticism...

    Any thoughts on that?

And what oil do you use for making mayonnaise?

    TIA,

    Re: Canola question

I use olive oil for mayo but I think the whole thing about canola being bad for you is crap so I never bought into it ..TOO much of ANY one thing is bad for you so try to spread youself around and enjoy ...I would not toss it I use canola for stir fries and things I do not want a flavored oil for .....moderation in all things is the key to winning here that is for sure!!

      Re: Canola question

I have read tons about Canola and its fine to use as long as its "cold pressed". Actually all good oils should be cold pressed. What you really have to worry about is old oil. Oil can and will get rancid and then its really bad for you. A little sniff will let you know if its rancid.
