  • Soy Milk

Is it possible to find soy milk without sugar in it? This weekend, every box I picked up (and I was only picking up the 'original' or 'plain' versions - no vanilla or other flavours) had about 5g of sugar or so per serving. The kind I eventually went with was the So Nice 'Original' organic soy milk. Nutritional information is here.. As you can see, it has about 5g of sugar, 1g fibre, and who knows what the 7th one is to come up with 7g of carbs, per cup. I'm guessing the sugar is from the organic cane juice? I don't know.

If you drink soy milk, what kind are you drinking? What does its nutritional info look like?

My husband is allergic to all dairy and drinks soy milk instead. He drinks Silk Soymilk - Unsweetened, and it contains the following:

Filtered Water, Whole Organic Soybeans, Calcium Carbonate, Sea Salt, Natural Flavors, Carrageenan, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D2, Riboflavin (B2), Vitamin B12.

It's nutritional profile for carbs per serving size of 1 cup is:

    Total Carbohydrates 4g - Fiber 1g, Sugars 1g

Westsoy or Westbra has an organic unsweetened plain soy milk which is about 4 net carbs per 8 ounces.

Just remember that soymilk isn't added until the legumes rung of OWL

Rybread, You can get the SoNice Organic Original, comes in either a 3 litre carton, or a 1 litre square carton. I get it at Loblaw's in the organic foods refrigerated section, I think i've also seen it on the shelf at No Frills. It has 3g's carbs, 1g fibre per cup so only 2net.

I've found you really have to be careful with soymilk. even with they say 'original' alot of times they contain sugar.

This is the lowest carb one i have found here.

Sadie, I thought in Canada they had already subtracted the fiber from the carbs on the labels? Am I confused, was that Europe?

Nope, that's in europe. here, if it's under .5 g's they can list it as 0 i think.. i think the european labelling would be very confusing.

Oh, ok I thought maybe I was remembering wrong. Yea, they can show .5 as zero here too.

Thanks Sadie, I'll have a look again (doing groceries today!), cause I swear, I thought the SoNice Organic Original is what I had bought.
