I am about to put chicken in the oven for about 45 minutes. I have a qhole Spaghetti Squash...can I just stick that sucker in there or do I have to cut it in half??
You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it. ~Maya Angelo~
cut it in half, and pop it in the microwave for 10 min with cut side up in about 1inch of water. When microwave stops cover it so it can steam for another 5 min.
Thanks Texmom. I knew that method...I was looking for a lazy way..LOL! Here is more info
Answer my own question:
"To bake it, split lengthwise and remove the seeds in the central cavity. While you CAN bake it whole, it is very painful trying to hold it still to remove the seeds when everything is 350 degrees and you are trying to dish it out to serve it hot. Bake it hollow side up. The riper the squash, the faster it will cook, but figure about 30 to 40 minutes for a halved squash to bake." http://www.karenskitchen.com/a/recipe_spagsquash.htm
I hadn't thought about how hot it would be coming out...I was thinking about how hard those suckers are to cut when they aren't cooked. I think I will give it a go cooking whole so I can see what it would be like to batch cook with it. That way I could put four or five in the oven and bake them...let them cool and put into individual serving bags in the freezer. I love having ready made stuff in the freezer!!! Hmmm...will wrap in tinfoil this time in case it gets soft in there. Wouldn't want a big old squash mess in my oven.

I just toss it in the microwave. I grab a fork and puncture it all over (so it doesn't explode!) and then nuke it for 10 minutes. When its done, I let it cool a bit, and then with my trusty oven mits and big knife, I cut it open. Easy peasy.

I'm lazy too and never make it in the micro, way to hard to cut when raw. I just poke it with holes & put it in the oven. When done I use pot holders & cut in half, let cool awhile and then de-seed. I try to make it the day before I'm going to use it.
Anyone try to make hashbrowns with this? Saw a recipe on another board, looked good.
