The recipe I have had for Gai Tom Kha is below, maybe it can help you in figuring out the carbs? I am sure someone can analyze the recipe for you and give you the exact #s, I'm not sure how.

Gai tom kha (thai chicken & coconut milk soup)
    Yield: 6 Servings

    Ingredients:

    4 c Medium coconut milk
    1 1/2 c Chicken stock
    3 qt Pieces dried galangal
    -(kha), or
    6 qt Pieces fresh galangal
    4 Stalks fresh lemon grass,
    -bruised, cut into 2-inch
    -lengths
    6 Fresh serrano chiles,
    -sliced into rounds
1 lg Whole chicken breast *
4 tb Fish sauce (nam pla)
    5 Fresh kaffir lime leaves
    -(makrut), if available
    2 Fresh limes, juice
    2 tb Chopped coriander leaves

Combine coconut milk, chicken stock, galangal, lemon grass and 4 of the chiles in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Strain stock; discard galangal and lemon grass. Return stock to a boil, add chicken and simmer until tender, about 2 minutes. Add fish sauce, citrus leaves and remaining chiles. Stir in the lime juice. Garnish with coriander.

Use Fitday.com to calculate how many carbs, calories, protein grams, etc, are in a recipe. Enter all the ingredients and then manually divide the total by the number of servings.

Then unfortunately, neither does anyone else. Except the restaurant. Try getting their ingredient list and making sure they don't add anything catastrophic that doesn't belong there, like sugar?

I've been checking every canned Tom ka gai I can get my hands on and have never come across one that didn't contain sugar. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but your restaurant probably puts sugar in their soup.

Very true Scott - I would bet a commercial/restaurant version would use sugar to sweeten this soup.

I hope you give my recipe a try - I believe you will be very surprised at the quality, even without a hint of sugar!

I know I am late posting on this thread but I am sure the fish sauce that they use in the recipe has sugar in it, the only thing I would suggest is that you make it yourself and leave out the fish sauce. hth

Certain brands of fish sauce are sugarless. An Asian grocer should give you a large enough selection for at least one to be sugar free.

Fish Sauce is sort of a catch-all name for a variety of sauces.

A true Thai fish sauce is not much more than a very strong, highly salted, liquified anchovy paste. The generic 'fish sauce' often carried in the grocery store is a corn syrup laden bizarre and very different animal.

thats where I made my mistake, I read the bottle at the grocery store so I just assumed they were all loaded with sugar its good to know now I will go to the asian market and search for one that doesn't have sugar. thanks!!! :wave
