I have a recipe that asks for almond flour, however, I've had a hard time finding it in my local stores. Would it be possible to substitute soy flour instead?
Thanks!

All almond flour is is ground almonds, You can make it yourself in the food processor with raw unsalted almonds. Just make sure you don't over process or you will get almond butter (which is very good too!)
It depends on the recipe as far as substituing soy flour. Almond flour has a different texture, and has natural oils, soy flour would be much finer and drier.
I've had no luck trying to grind my own almonds in a coffee grinder, it definatley turns to almond butter--chunky almond butter and its a pain to clean out of the grinder
Killer, do you have Harris Teeter or Whole Foods in DC? If so, they both carry it.

You had the problem too with pecans, i tried making pecan butter in my coffee grinder and couldn't . it would only come out to ground pecans ...You must have a very powerful grinder LOL
I have made my own almond flour no problem in the food processor..but i guess they are all different speeds? youjust reallyhave to watch the grinding time..
I think you can order almond flour from bob's red mill website as well.
I don't have a food processor! I'm thinking maybe the pecans were too fresh or something, cause they came off the tree in the front yard, I dunno.
Watch the price on the almond flour too, here at Harris Teeter its 15.99 a pound! but you can get it online for like $8.50! even with the shipping its cheaper online!

Soy flour tastes a lot different than almond flour too. I don't think it would be a good substitute because of the flavor differences. I find soy flour to be on the bitter side and almond flour on the sweet side.
