  • Flax bread ties my stomach in knots!!!!

On Thursday I made a delicious loaf of book's flax bread (using the protein powder recipe). Within 10 minutes of eating one slice with butter, my stomach was in knots! I didn't realize it was the bread, and I had some later that night and it did the same thing. Skipped a day, then had a piece this morning and same thing happened.

I was in such pain that I just had to lie on the floor until the stuff moved through my system . . . a long time!

What's going on? I typically eat 1/2 c flax cereal each morning without this problem. Has anyone had a similar problem? Could it be the soy protein powder? This is the first time I've used it.

Maybe its not so bad . . . I reached my goal weight since the cramping makes me lose my appetite!

Just read on the induction board that too much flax can make you constipated. Must be my problem. Thanks, book!

Thanks . . . wondering if it was the soy protein powder. I made some tuna "cakes" today from Dana Carpender's 15 min book and felt a knotty, but not as bad as the bread. I'm going to have 1/2 a slice of the bread this evening to test it out again. It's so good - I gotta find a way to eat it!

May I ask what the ingredients of your protein powder are?

Make it two, I'm afraid. I don't have problems if I just eat my flax cereal for breakfast, but the first day I made the bread, I'd had the cereal for breakfast and two thin slices of the bread later. The next day, cereal for breakfast, one slice of bread later. Definite constipation... The flax cereal by itself has the opposite effect, but in this case, "more" does not mean "more", it means less!! (Did that make sense?? LOL)

So, obviously there's at least two of us that need to limit the amount of flax we eat in any one day. Probably no more bread for me, because I like my cereal too much!
