  • Replacement for Breadcrumbs? (meatloaf, etc)

I have gotten my hands on my father's to die for meatloaf, but it calls for breadcrumbs. What's the best substitute I could use to make sure it doesn't get as dense and hard as a rock?

Finely crushed pork rinds! I don't like pork rinds alone, but when you crush them and add them to other things, you don't taste them. They make my meatloaf come out moist and tender. Try it!

I came in here thinking you were looking for breading for coating....oops! Well, if you are at some point - parmesan is great used in place of breadcrumbs. It actually sounds good to mix porkrinds with some parmesan and stuff in meatloaf...mmmmmm....

The bread crumbs in meatloaf is added to give the loaf moisture. It helps to bind the meatloaf alittle bit and it helps to "extend" the meat alot.

You substitute finely chopped, cooked onion and celery. These veggies will give the meatloaf moisture, tenderness and flavor.

I make carbquik biscuits and then pulverize them in a food processor. Works beautifully.

                flax meal is good too.
and you can add lots of other veggie foods like zuchinni grated up mashed cauliflower, celery, spinach, tomatoes, or anything else from your lists in chapoter 11.
in OWL grated carrots or other higher rung veggies. I saw a meatloaf the other day with cranberries in it.

just use your inagination. Also you will need to adjust the salt because mose breadcrums have sodium in them too.

if you are in OWL rung 9 you can use oat meal or even bread low cvarb of course
