Yes
they are small seeds, about 3 millimeters in length.

So do you grind it up for use in cereal/crackers?

Grinding it up is the only way to release it's nutrients. If you ate them whole, they pass right through you into the toilet bowl.

There are plenty of flax recipes on ADBB, just do a search and you'll find more than you'll ever want.

Be aware though, that flax is an acquired texture for some of us: it can give the final product a slimy/gooey texture.
