Hi,
Today I managed to catch most of an episode of the new FTV show 'Low Carb and Lovin' It' with George Stella.
My initial impressions are that it is good that he is most likely going to encourage more low-carbers to try some adventurous cooking for themselves, but at the same time, I have some misgivings about some of the things I have seen already in only one episode.
First of all he referred to the sugar-based carbs inside of a regular teriyaki sauce as 'healthy carbs' while this is obviously false.
He made a salad of iceburg lettuce with a 'chinese vinagrette' and claimed it was 0 carbs per serving. Considering the dressing contained lemon juice, and the salad lettuce and chopped peppers, as well as ginger and other ingredients that have carbs, this is obviously not 0 carbs per serving. Perhaps very low, but not 0.
In addition he claimed that sesame seeds have 0 net carbs. According to fitday (which I don't take as an absolute resource, but tend to trust more in this case) there are about 15 grams net carbs per cup of sesame seeds. Perhaps the carbs work out to very close to 0 in smaller amounts, but they are still there.
Overall I tought his recipes were decent, and that overall he will probably have a positive impact, but I was quite unimpressed by the factual errors presented in his program. As a matter of personal taste I also dislike the fact that one of the first episodes was on low-carb desserts, when learning to defeat a sweet tooth is something we should all be working towards. I fully admit this last point to being a matter of personal bias however. What does everyone else think who has seen this show?
