Does anyone here sprout their own sprouts? My sister used to have one of these

I loved her fresh sprouts. I have learned that broccoli sprouts are actually better for you than the actual broccoli's when they are mature. I would love to try them. Just wondered if anyone else grew their own and how.

    Re: Growing Sprouts

I used to grow sprouts. I haven't done so in quite a while. I never bought the sprouters, all I used was a glass mason jar with a square of cheese cloth I fitted on the mouth. Every morning I would pour in water, squish it around and pour the water out.

If you do sprout, make sure you use the seeds that are specific to sprouting. Broccoli seeds that are used for growing in the ground are sometimes coated with stuff to prevent rot and insect damage. Other things you can try sprouting are mung beans (buy the bulk kind from an Asian grocery store), lentils, soybeans, etc.

Yea, besides, the seeds that are intended for the garden would be very expensive to try and sprout! I mean around here they come in little packages! I wonder if the health food store sells sprouting seeds?

The conveinent thing about that sprouter that I posted is that its open on both ends, we used to let them grow very densley then push them out from one end to the other and slice them off so they looked like "burgers" and then make sandwiches out of them.

I used to get sprouting seeds at my garden center, but that was a long time ago. I think NK was the brand. But, I'm sure you can find an on-line source for them.

Yea they sell them online, very expensive, and then I bet the shipping costs are astronomical! I think I'll check w/ the local health food store first.
