hey there, leaving town & in for a good long drive... always took a box of various snack foods along with to avoid convinience store prices, but now I'm needing ideas on what to take since the usual candybars/bananas/sandwhiches are off the table now / any suggestions would be welcomed )

I like Atkins shakes when I'm on the go, I usually put them in the freezer a bit before I'm leaving so they're a little icey (let's me pretend I'm having a milkshake :yummy )

How about string cheese? It's individually wrapped and very portable. Atkins makes snack bars and "candy bars" too. :nod

Hi, it would be helpful to know which phase of Atkins you're in, because some foods appropriate for one phase aren't for another.

First off, get a cooler. Use either real ice or those blue ice packs (if you can get a hold of dry ice---even better). Then fill up your cooler with things like hard-boiled eggs, cold cuts, cheese sticks (or cut up a block of cheese), veggies cut into strips like celery, jicama, raw zucchini, etc., you can probably bring along a small container of dip or salad dressing for your veggies. The foil packets of tuna and chicken are good too (cans travel well--just don't forget the can opener!). Likewise, if you will have access to a microwave, you can bring along the small sized cans of veggies (spinach, green beans). Those small cans hold about a cup of veg. Again, don't forget a can opener if you choose to go the can route (not to mention, don't forget to pack away eating utensils!).

Also if you have a "Club warehouse store" (like Sam's or BJ's), buy a box of mayo and/or mustard packets---no refrigeration and the packets are pre-measured. Bring along a little container of for salt and pepper (I usually use small empty spice container and fill it with a mixture of salt and pepper). If you want crunchy snack-type food, you can make pepperoni chips and cheese chips (or you can buy the "Just the Cheese" snacks---just watch it because the package holds 2 servings, not one!).

The recipe for Revolution Rolls hold up well. Just pack them in a plastic bag and toss in the cooler too.

For OWLers, nuts and seeds--pre-measured and packed into snack-sized baggies, freeze-dried strawberries and raspberries (do a search on Google for these), etc.

And water---don't forget to bring a couple of bottles of water with you (sometimes it hurts me to see a bottle of water priced at $2.00!).

thanks for the ideas, already planned a cooler, instead of ice packs I'll have frozen bottles of water & my string cheese... thanks for remindin me I have some of those mint waffer cookies in the fridge heh.

dry goods so far... picked up a loaf of low carb 7-grain bread & some PB & Jelly (sugar free, still a fair # of carbs, but I don't use much) not going to count on a microwave so I'll leave the veggies (but forthe absent-minded alot of the smaller cans come in pop-top now!) I'll have to find my sunflower seeds, just hope the dog doesn't knock over my shell cup lol.

as far as rung I'll take suggestions from induction thru OWL... I've also got a little box of goods I'm not sure I'll find back home heh (like my low-carb pasta) I just hope I can get my carb-countdown milk out there, oooo maybe I'll find a better selection of Devinci SF syrups while I'm there...

sorry, kinda got off track D anywho I appreciate the responce & look forward to any more suggestions!

If you're staying in hotels or motels, you can buy a hotpot at Walmart or Kmart. You can not only boil water in it (also boil eggs in it) but you can also heat up veggies in it. I had one when I was in college and it came in very handy!

Speaking of which you can do a search on this board and others for the flaxmeal cereal recipe.
