  • Anyone ever made homemade yogurt?

Just curious as to how it's made. Did you use a yogurt machine or the old-fashioned way? Did it taste better than store-bought?

I really would like to make some yogurt so I don't have to deal with the preservatives in processed foods.

Can anyone help me out here?

    Many thanks!

I use a 1 quart yogurt maker. Since I would only buy Greek yogurt or plain unflavored, no additives yogurt, I'd say mine tastes the same (well, nearly, but I'll have to try a high fat Greek version when I'm on the dairy rung). It is cheaper than buying ready.made yogurt and I use organic milk and it is still cheaper than the conventional stuff (or costs about the same, it depends) Go figure.

I've been watching some yogurt makers on Ebay too. For some reason making my own yogurt appeals to me and is supposed to be so beneficial.

Let me know if you try it and what you think.

              I've made it this way.

but I haven't been able to tune it so it's thick enough. It was good, mind you, but not as thick as storebought.

Re: Anyone ever made homemade yogurt?

I love my carb countdown stuff for when I want a cooking or mixing yogurt. I like eatting yogurt better made from real milk added cream and instead of the powdered milk many recipes call for I add plain whey protein isolate ( you could use regular whey protein powder) the texture and thickness of the yogart is from the protein reacting with the conditions the bacteria create. you can make it thinker by just allowing it to react longer too. I did an OWL yogurt from the carbcount down stuff for 24 hours by mistake once. it stood the spoon up
