Why can't there be a crunchy snack like popcorn that has no carbs and no salt. I'm fighting in my head about having popcorn with the movie I rented tonight.
For Induction, your crunchy snacks are fresh veggies and dip, cheese crisps, pepperoni chips, flax wafers, etc.. Veggies like jicama are particularly nice with guacamole.
For OWL, your snacks are Carb Ladder Rung appropriate. So if you are in the Grains Rung of OWL, 5 net carbs of popcorn is certainly permissible. Ditto for Pre-Maintenance (10 net carbs of the food) and Maintenance.
But the HUGE caution here is if you strongly associate eating with an activity, ie: watching tv and eating a bag of potato chips, you might want to re-train yourself to not associate eating with activities. 'Eating out of habit' is bad eating habit.
I've been eating pork rinds to replace popcorn but I know they are not good with all that salt. Popcorn and sunflower seeds are the only thing that's making this WOE hard for me.
Pork rinds are high in sodium and may cause you to retain water. They are an okay snack for now and then, but I would do as Megs has advised and try to curb activity related eating. Snacks are great for when you are a bit hungry between meals or if you go more than six hours between meals. Searching frantically for something to munch while watching t.v. isn't really a good thing. You will find after a while of being on Atkins that you don't even think about snacking in the evening. Enjoy your movie!
I feel ya on that "gotta have popcorn" ball and chain. my first weekend on Induction, I went to the movies with my BF. I thought he would have to pull my body out of the popcorn popper! I took a tip from Moochicat and for my need to snack at night I had some cheese, pepperoni and something crunchy like radishes or celery in a bowl almost nightly that first week. It filled the hand to mouth habit I had/have at night. Have you seen the roasted califlower recipe? Ive not tried it yet but have been told it will fill the popcorn beast too. Good luck, I know the demon you are trying to kill isnt an easy one by anymeans!

I agree with the don't eat while watching TV crowd for sure....
one of the first things I did when I changed my eating patterns was to take someones advice and always sit down to eat at a table...with a plate...even for a snack ... if you are eating the focus should be the food ..enjoy it savor each bite and give it the full attention it deserves....then when you are watching TV or a movie ...savor that ... if you are hungry or need a snack have it before another activity...try to teach yourself to enjoy and appreciate each moment for what it is ..good luck
I hope this is not posted in the wrong forum or if this is a repost, I apologize...
I'm looking at the nutrition facts on a typical box of Pop-Secret microwavable popcorn. It says the serving size is 3 tbsp (36g) unpopped (makes 4 cups popped). Servings per bag about 3.
Under carbs it says 17g...3 Tbsp unpopped = 5% daily value and 1 cup popped = 1% daily value.
Does this mean I take the 17g of carbs and divide by 5?? I'm probably wrong but isn't popcorn just a seed and puffed full of air?? Please advise, thanks!!
P.S. whats up with the KERNEL CORN that looks like popcorn but tastes sweeter...And it says sweetened with Splenda on the box!?!?
Forget about the "daily value" --that is based on the governments recommendation of how many carbs you should consume in one day! Their recommendation is way way over what you eat on Atkins. What you look at is "carbs per serving size" But popcorn is not allowed on induction- I don't know what phase of Atkins you're on.
