  • Peanut Butter after induction?

I have read the book 3 times but I still can't recall anything about peanut butter (it's been a while) I'm holding a sleeping baby right now and I'm just curious if peanut butter is safe to add to my diet in small amounts after my initial clean induction. I finished my 2 week induction on Monday (lost 14 lbs). I need to loose about 25-30 more lbs and certainly do not want to include anything in my diet that has the potential to create a stall. But I would like to add a few more snacks .. peanut butter being one of them. I know that it is healthy and fairly low in carbs (my brand has 3 per 2 tbs). It does however contain sugar... which of course is a no-no on induction.

anyway.. just wondering if it is something that could be eaten in moderation .. and still continue to loose weight. When I get off-line and open my atkin's book I'll probably see in bright, bold letters "Peanut Butter is not allowed!" lol

    thank you in advance

Peanut butter can be added on Rung 3 of OWL. The natural kind only, peanuts and salt are the only ingredients.

    Hope this helps.

I just went to Wile Oats the other day (look them up on WildOats.com to see if there's one near you; otherwise try other whole foods stores) and bought a 1/2 pound of grind-your-own peanut butter. It's the BEST - you can actually see the peanuts being ground up. It's very tasty, and you don't miss the sugar at all. I ate a 1/4 cup all on it's own! I'm not courageous enough to try baking my own Atkins-friendly substitutes for crackers and bread, but I bet it would be great with those foods! Maybe try it with celery? (Oooh, now that I could do.)

      Good luck!

be careful of the amount you eat too 1/4 cup ground peanuts is way more them 1/4 cup peanuts. You can grind your own as many folk trying to make nut flours have discovered. On thing about Atkins check the ingredients and if all the ingredients are legal you can have it. Like mayo isn't on the induction food lists anywhere in DANDR but the ingredients are so Dr Atkins talks about eating mayo in the book. Same for whipped cream but he assumes you know it has to be sugar free not the kind in the can from the store. Don't laugh you'd be surprized how manny newbies post about eating that and coolwhip cause whipped cream is allowed and they can quote you where in the book it says so.

Count your carbs and happy low carbing to you.

LOL - I don't know if that was directed towards me, but in case you were worried, I should have said that I had ground a 1/4 cup of peanuts and ate it over a few days.

            Low carb peanut butter?

Has anyone tried it? If so, what was your experience?

whenever i want pb (3-4x/wk), i just eat about 2T of ordinary skippy.

i've run into no problems with this. 2T of normal everyday pb is not going to make or break you. i think the problem arises when people freak out over trying to find the kind with "no this" and "no that" ...just eat a moderate serving of the normal stuff, and don't stress so much
