  • Heidi_Crockpot help

I bought a new crock pot last night and could not wait to use it for the family. They wanted chicken and rice.
This am in the bottom of the pot goes 6 boneless breasts, 2 cans of rice, 2 cans of cheese soup and 2 cans of broth and some seasoning.
Chicken cooked nice and rice turned to paste.
It tasted good but************* what did I do wrong?

Rice in cans? I've never heard of that. was it precooked?

I agree with 2big...probably best to add it at the end. for crockpots anything that cooks quickly shouldn't be added at the beginning.

It was raw rice. I just used the soup cans to measure it. I thought maybe too much moisture.
        Thanks 2 big and sadie

I use my crockpots all the time (I have 3 and love them!) I have never however, cooked rice in them. If I want rice to go with something I cook it right before dinner is ready, seperatley in the rice cooker. But, if it was mush, the girls are right...it was cooked too long, you can use it for paste now

I redid the recipe and it was because I had too much liquid. I made the same thing with 1/2 and checked it at a shorter cooking time. I was able to cook it the whole time and it was perfect. I did not take into account the amount of moisture that would come out of my frozed chicken.

I kind of thought that was the problem...I have left rice on all day ..and it never got mushy just dried out to crackers!
