    Re: Wooden Spoons

I can not let a poll go without voting, its my right!!!!

I use wooden spoons, but only when using a non stick pan. If using a pan thats not non stick I use a real spoon.

I think the main thing with wood for me is as I said before ...it is asthetic..but the reality is ...it stays firm when I cut on it....
my son gave me a high tech one made out of some supersonic stuff he sells for countertops...and I am telling you I tried to cut some jicama on in the thing slid and I almost cut my hand off...

ok I always almost cut my hand off but this time it wasn't my fault!

I am going to send this thread to my son in law .....

in your face Jason my love

I am not only sending him a case of wooden spoons for my next visit ...but perhaps a cutting board as well ...or that may put him over the edge I think

I confess the only silicone cooking tool I have is a silicone spatula. Heidi you should see my cookie sheets so black with crud!!!!And that is after they are cleaned and scrubbed with steel wool. I use them more these days for roasting veggies than making cookies but you are right about the patina.

I don't like kitchens that don't look like you can cook in them. Don't like it when you can't make a mess on the counters or if all the pots and pans look brand spankin new. Can't trust that cook, ya know??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just can't bring myself to use them..My mother used to chase me with one. Never actually hit me with it...but she put that fear in me and ruined any chance that I would use a wooden spoon for cooking at any time in my life.

                          Re: Wooden Spoons

I use wooden spoons. I wash them in hot soapy water after every use and every few days I give them a soak on a weak bleach solution, rinse and wash again in hot soapy water.

I use wooden cutting boards too. Again, I scrub them with a scrubber and wash them in hot soapy water after every use and I wash them in a bleach solution too.

I think the bacteria thing is a no-brainer: if you don't keep your utensils clean, bacteria will build up on plastic or wood.

Scientists aren't certain why, but bacteria prefers to live in the artificial plastic scratches and cracks. So, that old wood chopping block is actually more sanitary than the modern "improvement"
