  • This Sucks!!!!

I just got bifocals ...and I don't care about that particularily ...it was bound to happen.... I am 47 for crying outloud it could have been when I was 40 ....besides...I have worn glasses all my life

the thing that is pissing me off and I wondered if was just me....I can not cook in them

when I toss stuff in the trash I miss ...the stove is weird... there is this area of transition when I am going from one thing to another that I can not coordinate!!!!

I am sure I will get used to them ..but you should see my floor right now....

they work well at work for sure because everything I do is either far or near..but on a computer or in the kitchen these things really suck getting used to!!!!

does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

    Re: This Sucks!!!!

I went from the bifocals to what they call "transition" lens Heidi. They are so much easier....... no lines. One prescription seems to blend into the next and they are SO much better then the bifocals. I had a heck of a time with bifocals, especially with steps etc.!

      Re: This Sucks!!!!

I have bifocals at the old age of 23, and have had them since I was 18. (For the record, I'm just slightly nearsighted, so they are designed so I can read without a headache and drive at night). There really is an adjustment period to where you get used to the top and bottom halves of the glasses. I couldn't walk to class in them because it was too strange making that close up bottom and far away top leap...and stairs??? Forget about it!!!! I would have fallen flat on my face. But the more I wore them, the more I got used to it. Now I can wear them all the time if I need to, and I do at work and school, for convenience. I'd say give it 6 months, but you will get used to it eventually!

That's interesting, Bren--I've heard more negatives than positives about the progressive lenses! My dr. suggested those, but I decided to keep my bifocals since I was used to them already.

I just got glasses for the first time, I am 50, its supposed to be progressive glasses, different parts of the glass has different strengths. I am having such a time getting used to them. Walkin in them is out of the question, I am afraid Ill fall. Things like that. And I take them off and have to find them, and I go out without them,
I supposed I will get usedto them.
Good luck with your new glasses

Thank you guys this is so frustrating!!!...the other thing that bugs me is I feel like I hve something in my eyes all the time

I wanted the transition lens however I told the eye doctor I get motion sick very easily ...so he suggested these.....
I have not been able to wear them an entire day and I can NOT wear them on the computer I get a headache....and forget driving in them.....but starting IV's and drawing up meds and reading a menu all good!

someone said I should get the surgery and just wear reading glasses..but yikes I can not think about eye surgery when I just paid like $400 a piece for 2 pairs of glasses!!!! (how do they get away with that???)

I am bummed when I try to read a list of ingredients for a recipe then try to cook it is so frustrating ...and it just is not working for me yet...

cooking is my second favorite thing in life and I can not be having this!!!

I acclimated to progressives very easily..it was a little strange for about a day, they told me to expect 3 days of adjustment. Now it's just normal "seeing". Good luck to you..I don't think I could handle bifocals either. puggles

thnks Puggles ...I can not afford anymore glasses for a while after that monumental expense ..and seriously if I can not get used to these in the next week or so I am going back and having a redheaded tantrum for sure....

one question..should you be able to drive and cook in these things I wonder?

Heidi........ alot of times (I have several different pairs of glasses) I use my old readers for computer work as the progressive (and yes the word is progressive!!......Sorry about that) for everything else.

at least you didn't get physically sick adjusting to yours. i got mine at 45 and the transition from down to up and up to down just getting the key in the lock and shifting the car to get out of the parking lot made me hurl. My doc suggested downgrading slightly my corrction and making it better the next yr cause i had 3 stigmatisms too but I figured i'd just get sick then too. it took 4 days of putting them on in the morining and taking them off only at befdtime before I could look down and up without feeling sick. if you look down when you walk it causes problems too.

I did get sick 2big I had horrible headache when I tried to use them on the computer...and I got sick when I looked at the floor after I thought I had tossed a bunch of stuff in the trash while I was cooking and realized I had tossed them behind it!!! I am good shot! I can hit a garbage can from any place in the kitchen....but with the bifocals ....sigh...I miss every time

you will adapt very quickly if you keep them on. Our Brains are marvelous. I can see okay when I get up and even read and type on ADBB but if I put on the glasses my brain goes to their vision and then if I take them off I can't see to type or read LOL

I got taller after my glasses fixed my stigmatisma and holes got deeper the sligh depression in the yard I had trouble mowing over turned out to be a 6 in deep hole LOL

Yep, try to wear them despite the headache. Really focus on that line--it is there to help you. Mentally tell yourself "I'm reading--bottom of the line". Walking--"Look over the line". At first your eyes really want to jump all over the place.
