There is a war in Iraq, there is poverty and a high rate of homelessness in our state..we have a huge problem with pit bull fighting, gangs and unemployment, not to mention the resurgence of public health concerns like.... TB syphilis and gonorrhea ...oh yeah lets not forget crack cocaine and meth!!! 10's of thousands of animals are put down every year due to people's thoughtlessness and lack of concern for animals they bring into this world...

HOWEVER.....WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES FRONE PAGE NEWS HERE IN THE SOUTH PUGET SOUND REGION???????

granted this is controversial to some people ...but seriously what is the priority here?????

the same people that want foie gras banned in this state also want Canada Geese killed so they do not poop on golf courses.....

no they put a rod down their thoats and force feed them to develope a fatty liver ( which is actually an unhealthy conditn for any one to have) so thier pate is graded higher.

yes and it is kind of gross how they feed them ..but you know I was attacked my friends "pet" geese several times and I would have loved to have shoved something down their throats..they beat the crap out of me!!!!

no they shouldn't and this was not about the cruelty of this food item it was about the political uproar ..but since it turned gross I say let this rant die ...sorry ...some how I thought the resurgence of TB was a more important issue for front page news...

Lemme 'splain a bit about foie gras production. It can certainly be done in a cruel manner, but it tends to make more sense and more money for the farms to treat the valuable birds fairly gently.

Geese, like some other animals, will *voluntarily* eat themselves into gross obesity and fatty liver syndrome. The funnel that gets put down their throats? It's basically the same thing that parrot breeders use to pump their hand raised baby birds with. At the sight of the funnel, the birds generally come running.

Is it cruel to encourage ducks and geese to eat until their livers are pathological before killing them? Possibly, but as a nation we seem to be doing the same thing to ourselves.
