I do not usually make or buy fish. I would like to stock up some and was hopeing there were some 'fish experts' out there that could help.
    Thank you in advance!

    Re: Favorite Fish

Orange roughy is one of my favorite fish...very mild and not very "fishy" tasting. Tilapia is also excellent. Both of these are great broiled in the oven with some butter and herbs. If you don't like a "fishy" taste, you would probably not like cod or salmon. I personally don't like cod anyway, but looooove salmon. Hope this helps! I buy all of my fish in bulk from a warehouse club like Sam's or Costco.

      Re: Favorite Fish

Thanks Allie. That is where I am going tomorrow (Sams) and thought it best to pick some up there!
I have had Salmon and it is definately not something I enjoy. Thanks for the Orange roughy idea, I think I have had that (years and year and years ago). I will definately pick some up.

        Re: Favorite Fish

I like fish! Salmon, monkfish, cod, fresh herring, fresh mackeral, fresh tuna, swordfish, Chilean sea bass, etc.

Some fishes are stronger tasting than others. But to reduce the 'fishy' taste you have to make sure you are buying fresh fish. If it's possible, smell the fish---it shouldn't smell 'fishy'. It should have a 'clean' ocean smell to it.

The other trick is to soak the fish in ice cold salted water for about 30 minutes before cooking.

I like Tilapia the best. I use a little butter and Old Bay Seasoning on it and bake it in my toaster oven at 425 degrees for about 17 minutes. Yummy!

Mahi-mahi with a macadamia nut coating makes for a great celebratory dinner.

Oh yes! Mahi-mahi is another favorite of mine, too. Mahi mahi, tilapia, and orange roughy can all be bought at Sam's I think...I may have gotten the roughy at Costco.

                  Re: Favorite Fish

As a native floridian raised on fresh fish caught by my dad, I'll eat just about any salt water fish. Haven't really had too much experience with fresh water fish except for catfish. I'll even eat what some people consider "bait-fish" such as mullet, drum, sheephead LOL

One of my favorites though is Shark...grilled, broiled, cut into fingers and fried (oops, that was in the old pre-Atkins days). If you haven't had it before, IMO it's not fishy at all, and it's a dense meat, so a little goes a long way. If you can get it in your grocery, a little squeeze of fresh key-lime juice and some butter makes it delicious.
