Not2? have you tried it ..eating the luffa? I bought one and forgot it ...they do not hold up....I am going to get another and try it but am not even sure I know what to look for ...my friend who eats it a lot says it is a little bittler?
it says in my Southeast Asian cookbook to skin it slice it and stir fry it....that is what I planned to do before it shriveled and got all moldy....it looked like a giant okra....I love to just pick something I have never tried ...find out how to cook it and taste...the only food that I have actually spit out was eel I just can not get that one down....all other fish and seafood....veggies and most meat...(no organs)....I will try and usually like if cooked properly

Yes, luffa is quite good. The texture is a bit like zucchini and the flavor is mild. The first time I had it, it was in a brothy chicken soup, so that probably reduces whatever bitterness is there.
The bittermelon lives up to it's name! It's definitely an acquired taste. I grow it because it's a climbing vine. The leaves are pretty. The fruit, when ripe is a bright golden yellow color and as it ripens the fruit begins to split and the seeds are a bright scarlet color, very unusual and very ornamental imo.
