  • Need High Protein Snack

I'm having a hard time getting my protein ratio up to 30%, I'm a real veggie and dip snacker which is pushing my fat and carbs up a little too high (plus is quickly getting boring).

I'd like to try to add more protein snacks to my diet. MAJOR LIMITATION: I hate eggs. I can't stand them. Every once in awhile I'll choke down an omlette; same goes for tuna.

I've been searching and searching, anyone have any quick ideas?

How about shrimp, cold salmon, you can add a little mayo. I have seen some people bake with protein shake powder, but I don't know alot about that. You could have a light soup of chicken broth, white chicken meat and some herbs, maybe a sliced mushroom and 2 or 3 baby spinach leaves. If you have leftover meat from dinner, you can snack on small pieces of that.

I'm sure the others will come up with better suggestions.

pieces of chickenbreast usually work for me. If you want it "portable" just grab a piece of meat. if you are a fork and knife person, make it into chicken salad perhaps?

I eat grilled chicken breast frequently. So I grill up a about 6 breasts on the weekend and use them the rest of the week: chicken salad, fajitas, soup, etc.

Since you are a dipper type person, why don't you cook a meat you like, (steak, chicken, boneless ribs), cut them into cubes or strips and dip that into a dip. I saw that done at a tapas party I went to in January: the host grilled some fillet mignons, cut them into 1 inch cubes, stuck toothpicks into them and served them with a sauce. You could do the same with chicken or pork (use the 'country-style ribs' cut or use plain old ribs!) or shrimp or a firm fish like monkfish.

        Editing to add...

Meatballs or small meat patties are a good snack-type food too.

I like to take chicken breast tenders and coat them in parmesean cheese and spices and fry them to make "chicken fingers" they're just as yummy cold as they are hot and easy to grab one to much on with a dip or without!

Homemade beef jerky is another yummy high protein snack that is very portable as well.

If you're not on induction (I don't think you mentioned what rung you're on?) how about individual packages of almonds or peanuts?

That's right MoG, depending on the phase of Atkins, you can have different things for protein sources. Tofu is allowed during Induction and we had that big tofu thread here with good tofu ideas.

For legume OWLers or Pre-Maintenancers, you can eat 5 or 10 net carbs worth of navy beans or similar beans: beans are a high protein food. If you mash them and add them to a dip that will boost the protein content alittle.

                Re: Need High Protein Snack

Genius ideas, guys. I'm going to have to make chicken pieces a bigger life priority (I wish I had a real grill, but George Foreman will have to do). I'm currently working on the berry rung, so perhaps I will consider some almonds.

                Thanks!!

                  No doubt. Meatloaf!!!

I mix the meat with: 1 beaten egg, fresh parsil, garlic, onion, 1 tsp. mustard, bacon and gherkins!

I cook it in the oven and then cut it into slices. They are easy to take away and soooo tasty!!!!

This is the meatloaf I cooked yesterday. I added bacon and pickles ... but you can add whatever you like: olives, sun-dried tomatos ..... I like to eat it with Dijon mustard
