  • I adore curry because....

first of all the variety of kinds!!!

curry is actually just a word meaning "spicy sauce" ..as most of us know there are all kinds of curries from all over the world....Indian, Caribbean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, all over Africa there are curries...name a place and I bet there is a curry somewhere from every culture it may not even be called a curry but it falls into the same catagory..the red sauces in Mexican cooking are very curry like ..

    second it is soothing
good curries sooth me ....they are my soulfood ..they bring me back to my child hood ..suck your thumb twirl your hair food.... that they hit every taste bud in my mouth ...warm the tummy and give the brain a soothing buzz...but do not trigger cravings and can be very low carb!!! so it is a perfect satisfying food for this lifestyle that is for sure ...I can eat until I am content, not stuffed ... and that content feeling of a a wonderful curry lasts for hours and hours ....with out a plunge in blood sugar or even a craving to finish a meal with "something else" like dessert....
I will not even chew gum after curry because I love how my mouth tastes after eating it!!!!

third...they are so easy ...once you get the knack of a good curry they can be anything from very time consuming (Malaysian curries require the slow browing of a tomato and that can take forever..but well worth it) ..or they can be tossed together with in minute from absolutely anything you have on hand.....

    I just love curries....

you guys tell us your curry stories...do you love them ? if so what types do you like best ie Thai, Indian, Caribbean?

if you have a favorite recipe and have not posted it yet or even if you have can we share?

is there a curry you would like to try and need a recipe for ..because either myself or some one of our fantastic cooks here can probably can tell you how to make it ..as this has been a life long quest for me ...

personally before I die I plan to try one of every curry on the planet...

I have curried everything from soup to nuts literally ...and desserts as well...

Curries using curry powder generally smell bad to me, especially if they over-do it on the curry powder.

There's a little Jamaican place nearby that sells a great curried "goat" (the goat is really lamb, but they call it goat to be more authentic). I get that with a side of spicy eggplant.

When I was kid, one of our neighbors was a Filipino family. I loved their chicken stew called "apritada". It's chicken cooked in a tomato-onion sauce with pepper and potatoes. You can leave the potatoes out and use turnips for something equally yummy. Basically, you take saute onion and garlic, add either a small can of tomato sauce or a couple of large fresh tomatoes, add a bay leaf and let that simmer. Then you add the chicken, and let that simmer more until almost cooked. Then you add the potatoes (or turnips) and the fresh bell pepper(and some hot pepper as well!). Let that simmer until the potato or turnip is cooked. That's it: really easy-peasy. I didn't learn until later that you can also use pork in the stew, I guess my neighbors preferred the recipe made with chicken.

I rarely use "curry powder" and if I do there are only a few select brands I do use ....

I adore curry goat..it is my second favorite to curry lamb! Caribbean style is the way I was raised on curry ..and still is my absolute favorite curry.....then I branched out as I got older...

              eggplant was made for curries

it is almost lunchtime I think !!!! and guess what I have????

I think people develope a bias because of the idea that a "curry" is a yellow powder in a jar with a strong smell....actually that recipe you offered from MJ is what I would call a typical curry ..where you mix and match spices of various kinds to make a wonderful spicey sauce for your food to simmer in .....like a stew!!!
