  • Thai Fish Sauce?

My DD was making a recipe out of a cook book and it called for Thai fish sauce. I look in the biggest stores I have and could not find it. I ened up getting her oyster sauce ans it tasted good but would love to know what the fish sauce is.

        http://homepage.mac.com/graham.holliday/phuquoc.htm

Phu Quoc is the best fish sauce on the planet it is made in Vietnam but it can be used as "Thai" it is not as strong smelling as some and it is bar none the best I have ever had

you can find it where ever they sell Southeast Asian food or ask for it to be ordered ..it should not cost more than $2 a bottle

You can also substitute soy sauce for it as well. Fish sauce is known as the "soy sauce" of southeast asia.

Yes, they are different, but if you really, really, really, really, really can't find fish sauce, you can sub soy sauce. Don't try subbing it with anchovies---doesn't work, because fish sauce isn't really "fishy" in taste.

sorry I get a bit emotional when it comes to food
but ...I like to call it "passion"

when I found this fish sauce brand after reading about it in some cooking mag ..I was stunned ..I always "liked" fish sauce...now I LOVE fish sauce ..this is amazing stuff I promise ..I think it is what was intended ...not the stinky cheapo stuff ....this is wonderful tasting ....

                            Re: Thai Fish Sauce?

For me, fish sauce adds a distintive sour taste that is pleasant as in hot and sour soup, soy sauce seems to add more of a salty taste and worchestershire sauce seems more savoury and salty. They all seem good to me, but are very distinct and I'm not sure that I would sub one for the other. Be careful, I have seen some fish sauce with added sugar.
