  • So what's the scoop on Corned Beef?

Okay. I can have corned beef tonight... ...but could someone please fill me in a little bit. Okay, some people make it w/ potatoes, so I will make mine seperately from MIL's.

What do I do?? Is all that sodium okay to have??

*Please remember I am cooking illiterate, so explain things niiiiiiice and slooooow. LOL

Thanks guys. I don't have a snowball's chance in **** learning from MIL....

Put in a pot and cook slow. My mom puts a can of beer in I do not. I cook on the stove about 2 hours or the crock pot about 7. Add cabbage in the last 20 mins(stovetop) hour(crockpot) if you like.
It is high in sodium so I dont eat it often but I sure love it.

I don't like salty foods, so I put the corned beef in a pot. Add enough water to cover the beef. Bring it to a boil and let it boil for about 5 minutes. Take it off the stove and drain the water away. Pour more water onto the beef. Bring it back to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until it is tender (you can stick a fork in it and it easily pierces the meat but the meat doesn't "stick" when you pull the fork out). Then I take out the beef, and boil cabbage, turnips, carrots and potatoes (I'm in OWL so I can eat some carrot and potatoes).

I on the other hand love salty foods! I put mine in the crock pot, cover it with water and add carrots and rutabaga chunks, let it cook all day long and when I get home I add the cabbage wedges ..yummmmmmmmmie!

yep it is fine if you are sodium sensitive then you might have a fluid weight gain tomorrow but your body will shed the sodium if you keep drinking your fluids. you can cut back the sodim intaske for your other foods to make up for it too.

I make mine in the pot and add cabbage near the end cause I like my cabbage still to have some form to it. I never liked the flavor ot the corned beef in other veggies so they cook seperately.

remember to slice it across the grain with a sharp knife or you will be chewing forever.
