  • Just a quickie about steak !

Im having steak for lunch but whenever I cook it, its as tough as old shoe leather and about as tasty LOL. I'm not sure if its the cut of the meat, as I usually buy quick frying steak, but this time i've bought some sirloin steak so I hope that will be better. So has anyone got any ideas on how to make the best of it?

    Thanks in advance!

Bringing steak to work is tentative because you would normally want to reheat it..however if you want to try something new then try this

marinate your steak in some home made or good bottled Italian dressing then broil until rare slice thin across the grain and serve cold on a salad

sirloin is very lean so if you eat steak well done it is going to be dry and shoe leathery

Thanks Heidi3 and I'm sorry to sound a bit daft but, how would you make an Italian dressing and what does broil mean? Plus im a housewife so I was going to having it with buttered mushrooms and cook and eat it straight away. If you were going to do that what would you do with it?

not a problem here you go (this makes a lot so you can store it in your frig)

        1 cup olive oil
1/2 cup good vinegar like red wine or something you like
        3 cloves fresh garlic smashed
        1 tsp dried oregano
        1 tsp dried basil
salt and fresh cracked pepper to taste

shake it up well put your steaks in a zippered plastic bag or just in a dish cover with the marinade and leave for at least 2 hours

broiling is the hot burner in the oven that you can just put the steak under on a pan...if you do not have a broiler use a very hot skillet for a 1 inch steak cook for 2 min on each side max and get it out of the pan to rest then put your mushrooms in

the way to murder a steak is to do too much with it actually ..the fattier cuts are more tender but a sirloin is great if you just marinate it and then just cook it hot fast and get it off the heat..then slice it very thin before eating

        hope this helps

if you want to make a Korean steak this is really good

        1/4 cup soy sauce
        3 tbl toasted sesame oil
        4 cloves fresh garlic
1 inch piece of fresh ginger grated
minced bunch of green onions or scallions
same method marinate this about 2 hours or so

Just a thought. Do you bash your steak with a meat tenderiser?

Do you not? It breaks up the fibres and makes it more tender.

(well thats what I was always led to believe anyway)
