I think it sounds GREAT. I'm tempted to try it for something different on Labor Day, we usually do the same ol' grilling out stuff (not that that's anything short of delicious), but something different is nice. Not sure I can find all those ingredients though, especially FRESH.

Any idea where you can get fish stock? Or do you make your own? If so, how?

As for the orange debate, I'm sure the tiny amount wouldn't be a big deal for most people. Just depends how strict you need to be based on your own metabolism and triggers, I'd guess. I don't think it's the number of carbs that's the problem, just the fact that it's sugar, which spikes your blood insulin even in small quantities because it's absorbed super fast (at least that's my understanding). But for a special occasion, I think I'd include the orange too.

Anyone else have great Labor Day ideas?

Yeah, I doubt that amount of orange is a huge deal, and I don't want to come off as a rules-****, but for induction, it just seems like a particularly bad idea.

The Atkins plan is pretty flexible, especially once into OWL, but during Induction it should really be 100% by the rules. Fennel seeds, btw, I would count as a spice, so those would be OK, but that is just me.

You could use a kafir lime leaf to add a zero carb/zero cal citrus flavor.

Of course that give it a slight Thai flavor that may prompt you to start pumping up the chile content....

Not that that would be bad. :wave

You could replace the orange with a bit of extract if you wanted to as well.

          orange EXTRACT??????????????????????????

????????? No no no :anger :anger :anger that would not work ...how about we leave the orange call it OWL friendly and not try to screw with a perfect recipe!!! because the reality is that is a perfect recipe!!! no lemons ...no extracts....no keffir lime leaves (although I do use them a lot and they have their place)....I should not have put "induction friendly" my mistake ...and if someone accidently falls off the wagon because I added an orange I am sorry but that is like blaming me for drinking because you ate fruit cake!!!.....Mother you should still come!!! we will find a nice dry white wine!....

            Looking for stock

you can just use a Knorr fish cube it is perfect and with all the fish you put in you do not have to really have much of a stock ...
fish stock is easy to make but for this since the fish is left pretty much intact and whole it gets the flavor that way and the cube or two gives it some more depth....
We have had a party where we made the Bouillabaisse with everyone bringing a piece of fish or some shell fish ....it is wonderful....and then everyone participates....

That's a neat idea nurselady! Like a pot luck only with one big pot! I sure wish I could make it for dinner, but that would be a looong drive and I'd probably need to be on the road already to make it in time! LOL Since I'm in OWL, I would leave the orange and the wine! :eating Yum

Nurselady - I am going to go ahead and put a copy of your recipe into the newly reopened recipe forums as well, if anyone else posts labor day recipes in this thread, please start a new thread for your recipe in the appropriate recipe forum as well. Thanks a bunch.

Recipes here are fine, especially in the context of posting them in response to a request in a thread, or various ways to do things, etc, but if you do that, go ahead and make a duplicate post of just the recipe in the appropriate recipe forum.

For topics that are simply a post of a recipe, just go ahead and put that in the recipe forum to begin with. We are going to be moving a good number of posts soon trying to get things cleaned up a bit, as the Food forums seem to have a lot of interesting overlap going on right now.

Well, the recipe forums pre-date the recipe database. A lot of people wanted the forums back because it was easier to browse through while checking the site, and easier to see the feedback of others to the recipes, as well as possible spins and modifications of them.

I have to say I couldn't agree more. When I came back from my hiatus, I was stunned and confused by the forums being gone, and it didn't see the lowcarbrecipes site had as much information, as many recipes, and like you said the feedback and variations made the discussion invaluable. I'm just lucky they're back within a couple weeks of my return! :clapping
