I haven't been to one in a very long time. Does anyone know offhand what I might see that may be slightly different than what a non-kosher eater would normally come across? I've eaten a large variety of dishes my entire life (I am from New York City after all), but this being a special event, i'm assuming there's going to be special things I haven't seen in a while or at all. I'm in extended induction - following induction rules, btw. I know certain things won't be served together so hopefully that will make choices easier, but I know starches are big and so are breads.

I know there won't be any pork or shellfish, and dairy and meat won't be served together. I actually don't even know if it will be strictly kosher, but I know the mother doesn't eat the forbidden foods.

Re: Going to a Bar Mitzvah - What to Eat?
I have been to lots of those!!! considering I am 1/2 Jewish!
there usually is nothing unusual about the food and it is catered for a mixed crowd ... I would not worry there will be plenty of legal foods there ..there is usually salad the meat or fish will be baked or broiled usually with out breading. If there is soup it is usually matzo ball and you can just take the ball out and eat the broth and chicken ...what else ...veggies are usually steamed sauted or broiled...it is never hard to eat at a Bar Mitzvah that is for sure
if it is then dance a lot and it will take your mind off the food!!!
they are a lot of fun and it is a beautiful service have a great time!

Re: Going to a Bar Mitzvah - What to Eat?
I did have smoked salmon and whitefish, yum. I love all kinds of food, but there were lots of potato and bread things going on, so no to them.
I also had a gin and tonic, boo
And a cannoli, boo again. Waaaay too sweet. I've been wanting one all week, but I think I finally realized I don't need the sugar. It was too much. I think I'll go back to the low carb search for a good cannoli.
I had prime rib for my entree, also good.
So I made some bad decisions today, but I'll stall and get annoyed and life will continue and in a week I'll lose a few more pounds and move onto owl. I was going to start Monday, but my indiscretions today will probably take a few days to wear off and I'd rather not mess around with new things, so I'll wait a few more days.

perfect I agree 100% stuff happens and not a bit of sense to beat yourself up over it!!!
I grew up in the land of canollis and other Italian food and I am telling you I know a canolli craving!!!
I am going to try the George Stella recipe this week ...
did you dance at at all? I love dancing at a Bar Mitzvah!!!....that should have worked that canolli off!
you may stay in ketosis any way ..one canolli is not a complete disaster ....
gin has no carbs but I think tonic water does I could be mistaken I don't drink it...but if it does it should be a very small amt

Re: Going to a Bar Mitzvah - What to Eat?
I danced a little, carried the chair around, lol. It was more kid oriented so we mostly stood around and gossiped.
I posted in the cooking thread where we were talking about the egg rolls etc. regarding finding a cannoli recipe, we found a couple, but I don't tknow if anyone's made them yet.
