As an aside, I once worked at a place with a large Hispanic population and the slang for a 'loose woman' was 'concha', which means 'shell'. A Puerto Rican co-worker explained that the connection was that a 'loose woman' er....ummmm...how do I phrase this without getting banned myself....er.... was like a shell because they both 'open and close' whenever something goes by.

OMG DROSA we need to start a LC Puerto Rican food thread...my best friend who taught me Spanish and how to shop and cook in Panama had a Puerto Rican husband and so I learned Panamanain/Puerto Rican Fusion from her ....

there is some awesome and very very sexy food comes out of that part of the world!!!!!

Thats sounds great...We can definetely trade recipes.... I of course loved PR food...thats what got me fat in the first place..

I have also learned to adjust many recipes to fit my new life style, without trading in any of the SABOR!

More info about avocados than I knew existed.

I had my very first bite of avocado yesterday, and it was REALLY good! I was surprised by the flavor, I didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't that. I just squiched a little lime juice over it and put a dash of salt and ate it straight. I really enjoyed it! Now I want to know what more I can do with it, what recipes I can make, etc. YUM!

do you know my mother died very young and the last food to cross her lips was an avocado....

I think it is a wonderful food.....

you can of course make guacamole and there is a recipe someplace for a creamy cold avocado soup I have made ...and if you are on the edge and want to try something new...
try making an avocado cheese cake ...just use a regular recipe for cheese cake and add two ripe avocados and about 1/4 cup fresh lime juice ...to die for

right now for me on the west coast they are about a dollar for one that looks just like that picture above ..this is a good year for them apparently because last year I missed them terribly
