    Re: Non-Low Carb Cookbooks

Megs, if you like the America's Test Kitchen recipes, check your local PBS station schedule to see if they air the America's Test Kitchen show. It's wonderful. So are the ATK magazines, Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country. As I flipped through Country last week, I realized that more than half of the tear-out cards in the center were for naturally low carb recipes, and others could be adapted easily.

I like America's Test Kitchen (the show).....but I can't stand Chris Kimball. He looks exactly like someone I worked for once and I couldn't stand that guy either.

Here's another book. I spend half of Saturday in a bookstore reading through it and ran to the library to borrow it.

"The Minimalist Cookbook" by Mark Bittman. 95% of the recipes are naturally low carb. Excellent book.

        Another excellent book:

        Vegetable Love by Barbara Kafka

Loads of vegetable recipes. The golden pepper ice cream sounds interesting and I might have to try it when my pepper crop is ready.

Anyhow, the best section of the book is the vegetable index. She goes through how to choose and store the vegetables, preparations (like microwave prep), and cup equivalents like 1 large whatever will equal 2 cups chopped, 1 cup sliced, etc.

I really like Joy of Cooking. There is a section of recipes for Flourless Sauces. Hubby and I made a Chicken Curry dish from this book that was legal with the exception of Yogurt, which we subbed with Heavy Cream, and it turned out great.

OMG I have a big white Joy Of Cooking book that I got from my grandma's house when she passed away. I don't think I've ever spent much time looking thru it. Thanks for reminding me Miss P!

Yep, mine's a big white one too, but it's the new revised printing. Good stuff. There is a recipe for EVERYTHING in that book. Really covers all the basics.
