    Re: Bitchiing In The Kitchen

Here's another one - my DH's boss considers himself a gourmet cook, and we have a gourmet kitchen. He is always trying to put pressure on us to let him cook in my kitchen. The food he makes is usually OK, but he makes such a mess, and uses every pot, every bowl, every plate, there are splatters everywhere and quite frankly the food doesn't warrant the massive cleanup that he leaves me with. He will quite often host parties at our house. He presides over his court in my house. He will say to DH and the other managers I am going to host a wine tasting or scotch tasting, do you want to come, and then when everyone says yes, he has an excuse why it has to be at our house and not his. This happens alot and because he is DH's boss you really can't say anything. Last Christmas, it was decided that the department would go to a nice restaurant for the Christmas party. He said "I can cook better than any restaurant, why don't you let me give the Christmas Party" of course no one is going to disagree with him, and after one week he found a way to change the venue to my house Then he says that he shouldn't do all the cooking and that I should do the main dish and he the dessert. He also said that he didn't trust the others to cook, so they should just buy the starters and the booze. I made a Boeuf en Croute with a Duxelle (filet mignon topped with a reduction of chopped wild mushrooms and cream and herbs encased in puff pastry). He made a comment - of course the one with the British heritage makes some kind of meat pie.

I have to stop this now, I can feel my BP going up. Calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean.

LOL My father in law really helped me over the years, he told my mother in law he wanted to move in with us, and told my sister in law she needed to take notes from me (gah felt bad for her). I really enjoyed cooking for him, but he has since had a gastric bypass. He tells me, he doesn't miss food in general, but misses my cooking.. awww
one of my best friends had a gastric bipass last year and get this ..has lost 210lbs!!! anyway I cook for her all the time ..just keep her food low fat and of course low sugar ..I just consider it a challange to make a tiny tasty something for her..she did not give up eating but she can not handle much that is for sure ...so I make what she can eat very tastey !!!

Hahahaha... that is going to be so great for you. If she gets really pissed you can say, "I didn't make love to him, my food did!"
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

Blinsk, your hubby's boss is a freeloader to the extreme. I wonder how he would react if you and Mr. Blinsk start dropping hints that you're thinking of moving or renovating?

I have a few family members I can't stand to cook for! They're my "shoulda-woulda" relatives. You all know the type: "Oh you should have put some rosemary in this instead of parsley. It would have tasted fantastic!" Nothing is every good enough because it would have tasted better if I had substituted this for that and that for this.

When I was a teenager, I baked zucchini bread. Unlucky me, they dropped by to chat with my mom and dad. Anyhow, while they were snarfing down my zucchini bread, they were telling me that if I had used pumpkin instead of zucchini it would have tasted good and if I had used pumpkin pie spices instead of plain cinnamon it would have been better. Not to mention I should have used buttermilk instead of milk and I should have added another egg. And I should have baked it in a Bundt pan, not in a loaf pan. If I had followed their suggestions my zucchini bread would have been pumpkin cake!

I also have a relative who will suggest some really bizzare ingredient, like putting turnips into apple pie or making shrimp-vanilla ice cream.

you should see the family summer picnic! The menues are pretty much set for Thanksgiving and Christmas so there's minimal complaining then, but the summer picnic/cook-out is a free-for-all. Everyone is encouraged to bring something. There are a few people who are asked to bring specific dishes, but for the most part everyone can be creative.

That's why I just bring my stuff, stick it on the table, get my servings and slink away. If anyone asks what I brought, I'm never specific because I'll get suggestions on how it would have tasted better if I used this instead of that.

Yeah, I think if they'd asked me, I'd say I brought the ice.
