Ingredients: Partially-Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Soybean, Cottonseed), Wheat Flour, Onions, Soy Flour, Dextrose, Salt, TBHQ And Citric Acid In Propylene Glycol To Help Protect Flavor.

A serving size is 2 tablespoons- that's pretty small. I love these things. I could see going way overboard.

Walnuts or slivered almonds add a nice crunch to salads and are way healthier than those onion things

Home made bacon bits are good. Those onion things have wheat flour, soy flour and dextrose (a form of sugar). I would run far, far away from those. What about crumbled pork rinds? Would they be crouton-y? I've never tried it myself.

Re: French Fried Onions --- Ok or Not?

Making crispy fried onions is very easy. I first read about it in a Chinese cookbook by Martin Yan and then in two Indian cookbooks by Madhur Jaffrey and Julie Sahni.

Anyway, you need to slice the onion very thinly. Martin Yan sliced it into rings, while Jaffrey and Sahni sliced them lengthwise. Regardless, make sure you slice them thin.

Next heat up oil in a pan over medium-high heat. This is a shallow fry technique so you don't need alot of oil. Maybe 1/4 cup depending on the size of your pot.

Add the onion slices and stir them as they fry. You'll see the onions turn color. When they begin to turn golden brown, remove them from the oil and place on paper towels. Martin Yan, however, suggested to put the newly fried onions onto wire racks to cool because they don't become soggy while cooling on oily paper.

The onions can last in an airtight container for 1 week.
