Re: Queso Blanco (Mexican Frying Cheese)

Slice it into 1/4 inch slices. Then put in a frying pan and cook it. The bottoms will cook to a golden brown color. Flip and let the other side brown.

It has quite a bit of fat on its own, but if you don't use a non-stick pan, you can cook it in alittle butter or oil.

BTW, let it get really crusty-golden brown because the crustiness is the best tasting part! There's absolutely no need to coat the cheese in any type of breading.

I like to have it for breakfast.

barbiebabe, where did you find it? i looked and looked when i was south and finally gave it. there might be other things i could have used but i wasn't sure so i passed on buying them. and while i'm here, where did you find your almond flour? i searched for that too with no luck.

You can get it at Walmart Super Stores here. Actually here you can get it almost everywhere, we have a large Mexican population. I love the stuff!

that's where i looked but i never had any luck. i gave up after awhile. the mexican population has increased in the gulf coast area, too. lots of products catering to the mexican woe have been intorduced.

gotta find a picture of this cheese so i know exactly what to look for. maybe this new place i am shopping at will have it.

              I've never seen that brand.

I actually like to buy it at the Mexican Grocery store--its all in spanish though so I don't remember the brand name. Next time I go there I'll try to remember to jot down the name. I'll search and see if I see one that looks similar.

I like to cut long flat stirps of it, then I can fry a bunch at a time, flat in the fry pan with a teensy bit of oil. Oh, Arab groceries have this kind of cheese as well, but they call it something different and I can't remember the name, they'd be happy to tell you though if you have one near you that you can ask.

Jimmie, it may be labeled "Queso Para Freir" or "Queso Blanco" or "Frying Cheese"

It looks like even Hormel makes it check this out

The Wisconsin one?--yea the package at Walmart looks sort of like that, only I didn't see any with spices added.

The folks who make those "just the cheese" snacks carry it as well

There has got to be one of these brands available near you Jimmie!

that is the link that linda used in her recipe. you know how some WM'ts don't have the same things. next time i go into town, i'll have another look see for this. jack would love the poppers and i would love the fried cheese. this new place seems to have more things than even the supercenter. pbird would be proud of me.
