  • grilling fruits....

    try it

I grill all kinds of fruits ...all the time!...melons are great brushed with oil and grilled....peaches, apples, mangos ...I skewer them ..even season them with chile lime and salt before I grill them then put some fresh cilantro on top chop them up and use them as a kind of roasted fruit salsa...

you are not going to believe me when I tell you ...mangos are good with olive oil and garlic ..but they are

I have not had good luck with berries and grilling but I imagine if you can figure it out ...maybe a grill basket or something ..you could do it....

I love sweet and savory combos ...

one of the best side dishesfor a good curry is

    grilled mangos cut into cubes
toss with chile, lime and fresh mint!

fruits are wonderful and coming in like crazy now ..combined on your plate of fresh grilled fish, poultry or red meat ...and ..well ...heaven awaits you!!!!

another is grilled melon with balsamic drizzled on it ...and a few toasted walnuts mixed into a green salad with gorgonzola cheese

I could go on ..but I have to go to work and I am making myself ...well ...you know me

trust me grill a fruit and see what happens

Peaches and pineapples are too grilled too! Especially if the peach or pineapple isn't perfectly ripe. The grilling makes up for it.

                Terrific ideas, Heidi!

I often used to grill tinned pineapple rings to top gammon (thick ham) steaks in the days before Atkins!

Now there's something I never would have thought to try. My mom always use to grill chicken and pineapple....but never melons. Nice. Thanks for the tip, Heidi.

                    Re: grilling fruits....

I got to the fruit rung and got one of my beloved Mangos. I've had allergic reaction to them years ago, but I learned that if I ate them in moderation, I'd be okay.

Well, I got 2 mangoes and I cut them up and have been having a bite here, two bites there...and I'm itching like a mad woman!!! Guess I can't have them any more and I could just cry!

Might have to try the grilled honeydew then.

                              Recipe Summary
                              Difficulty: Easy
                              Prep Time: 10 minutes
                              Cook Time: 20 minutes
                              Yield: 4 to 6 servings

2 pounds assorted fruit (pre-cut into chunks), such as pineapple, mango, cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon
                              1/2 cup light olive oil

                              Special Equipment: 8-inch wooden skewers

Submerge skewers in water for 10 to 12 minutes. This will keep them from burning when grilled.
Preheat a grill to medium heat.
Thread fruit onto skewer, alternating types of fruit for a colorful presentation; fill the skewer no more than halfway. With a pastry brush, paint the fruit with a light coating of oil. Place skewers, a few at a time, in the hot grill. Turn occasionally until you have grill marks on all sides of the fruit.
