  • True Lemon

well this is not a lemon so I dont know what to think of it ...my son gave me two boxes ...one of True Lemon and one of True Lime
he says he uses them in marinades?

we all know how I feel about processed food this is not a lemon at all but I was thinking about things like lime and red chile nuts or something?

    have you ever used it?

personally I love a real lemon you can smell them, feel them ...slice them and sqeeze them to get what you want ..this stuff you just tear open a package...

I've seen that in the supermarket!!!!!! Personally, I like real lemons--the kinds with a skin, pulp and seeds, not those plastic lemons filled with "juice".

Those plastic kind & bottled lemon & lime juice last a lot longer than fresh fruits, and I think they are almost as good. But I wonder about tear-open packets.

Heidi, I have a greater tolerance for artificial foods than you do and I wouldn't go near it.

This being said, this stuff has its fans. I'm pretty sure your son believes he's giving you something really special!

Taste it before you get rid of it. It won't hurt you... too much

Btw, I put zest in my chili lime nuts.

oh baby thank you so much!!!! that is what I wanted to know!!!! I have been looking at this box all day trying to figure out why this is in place of a real lemon or lime!!! or how it could replace one...I do not care for reconstituted juice at all ...I think he got these from the food show we went to they sent him samples ....
I will taste it now and see what I think ...I am going to just rip it open stick my finger in bravely and taste it ...here I go ..I am not going to think of it as food just an experiment!!!

it does not list anything I can not pronounce on the label!!

ok zest is a great idea ..but what about the tang I am looking for with the nuts I want to make them chile lime with some tartness...I have some sour salt I think that is just ascorbic acid and salt if I added the lime zest would I get the flavor I want I wonder?

                  Re: True Lemon

                  The ingredients are:

Citric Acid, Lactose, Lemon Juice, Lemon Oil, Maltodextrin, Ascorbic Acid.

The lime is the same except it has Lime Juice and Lime Oil.

I haven't tried them but I did get some free samples in the mail about 2 weeks ago.

I'm confused though, the package says no sweeteners...aren't Lactose and Maltodextrin sweeteners? Or am I mistaken?

Citric acid (the first ingredient) provides a lot of tartness. That's what makes these very tart but not that lemony. You might be able to combine this with zest to acheive something worthwhile. Your sour salt/zest idea sounds excellent. Ascorbic acid doesn't have quite the tartness of citric, but it's still pretty tart and should go very well with zest.

Another souring agent that might go well with chile/lime nuts is amchur (green mango powder).
