  • Ideas to bring to a tikki party?

I'm going to a backyard tikki party this weekend and am looking for some ideas I was hoping for something quick, easy and cheap. I was thinking of maybe some skewers with pineapple, mango etc. I was also going to do a search for some tropical drink recipes and type them up print and laminate them (they've built an actual tikki bar in the backyard).

Anyone have any good tropical tikki party quick snack ideas i could bring?

    Here's a drink recipe

    Singapore Sling

    • 1 1/4 oz. Gin
    • Dash of Grenadine
    • Sour mix
    • Soda
    • Cherry Brandy

Shake gin, grenadine & sour mix, pour in large glass. Add a splash of soda, float cherry brandy on top, Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
There is a Hawaiian ambrosia recipe here that sounds good, plus there are a bunch of drink recipes at the bottom of the page

My mom makes hawaiian meatballs. She just buys frozen meatballs and throws them in a crockpot with a pineapple sweet and sour sauce. People always like those. (Not induction friendly of course)

Wow those are great sites thanks! I'd searched some as well..I think I wil do meatballs with the pineapple sauce miss phode...i'll just buy the precooked ones too...everyone likes meatballs and they're easy..i can just bring my crockpot over there.

I also thought i might make a 'pineapple boat' hollowed out pineapple filled with fruit cubes/balls. then make a dip maybe of pineappple, sour cream, cream cheese and pineapple crystal light mixed together to dip it in? that shouldn't be too hard.

MOG thanks for all the drink recipes...i should have more than enough now!

I've actually never made it before, was really just a thought. I'd imagine you could use sour cream (yogurt when on higher rungs) room temp cream cheese and mix with a hand blender till smooth, then add crystal light or whatever flavoring to taste. I'm thinking lemon/lime juice and splenda would work as well...

                  How about this dip

                  http://www.diabeticcooking.com/DCRec...0905001010.htm

of course use full fat versions instead of the low fat stuff listed--but it looks good!

                    Here is another dip idea

                    WATERMELON FRUIT DIP

                    Yield: 4 cups

                    8 oz cream cheese, softened
                    1 cup sour cream
                    1/3 cup powdered sugar (splenda)
                    2 tsp. vanilla
4 cups watermelon, cubed and seeded

With an electric mixer, beat cream cheese and watermelon until smooth.

Blend in powdered sugar and vanilla. Fold in sour cream.

Serve with a variety of fresh fruits.

Fastest and best sweet and sour recipe I've ever tried, Sounds gross, but you wouldnt believe how amazing it is. A gourmet chef told me this time saving tidbit

brown ready made meat balls (or whatever meat you are using)
take 1 large jar welches grape jelly
add one jar Heinzs chili sauce, heat in a saucepan til blended and heated through, Wisk a few times and pour over meatballs. Thank me later!

Star, I've had those meatballs years ago, and they were good. Now how can we make them low carb?

I think that the chili that they call for is that sweet tomato sauce that has chunks of onions, tomato and pepper. The sugar free jelly would work, but I have yet to find a good one in Canada, any suggestions?

Have you looked for a sugar free jelly in the Diabetic section of your grocer? Here they sell one called 50/50 for diabetics. Also Polaner All Fruit brand is making SF ones now. I would also check the label on those premade meatballs to be sure they don't put any fillers in them, you might need to make your own homemade meatballs. I couldnt' find the chili sauce ingredients, it does have 4 sugar carbs per tablespoon which could add up quick when using a whole bottle like that!
