  • heavy cream/ whipped cream question

Hi all. I want to make whipped cream from heavy cream and splenda but I don't know how. I've never bought heavy cream before. Do I whisk it or add someting to it or what?

Re: heavy cream/ whipped cream question

For 2 cups of whipped cream, pour 1 cup of cream into the chilled bowl and whip it vigorously until it just begins to hold its shape. Add flavoring (if desired) and sweetener, and continue to whip until it holds very soft, droopy peaks.
FOR FLAVORED WHIPPED CREAM: You'll get more volume from whipped cream if you hold off adding sugar or flavorings like vanilla or liqueurs, until just before the cream becomes soft and billowy. Make sure you slowly add them at the side of the bowl while whipping, tasting as you go.
Flavorings: add per 2 - 3 cups of heavy cream or to taste.

Just as Dot said, put the cream in a bowl and whisk it til it starts to get thicker and add splenda at the end.

Just 1 little warning tho. I would only have this as a treat. Splenda can be addictive and having too much cream can stall weightloss. One of the best things on Atkins tho is strawberries and cream, I LOVE IT!! Altho I have to wait until OWL tho

If you own an electric mixer, this would be the time to pull it out and use it! I've never made wipped cream using a whisk. I assume it would take forever, but hey, burn calories and work that arm!

I use my Magic Bullet, it takes just a couple of seconds and you can make just a couple of tablespoons at a time if you like!

I have one of those hand held immersion blenders that came with a whisk. I measure out my cream, put it in a plastic cup and whisk it until thick. Yum. I use sweetzfree (liquid sucralose) and vanilla to sweeten/flavor it. Yummy.

Half the time, I'm too lazy to even whip. I simply pour the whipping cream over my berries and eat it that way.

              I know, I know....but, it's still darn good!

I burn calories while I whisk the cream. (Every little bit of exercise counts, imo!)

The other thing you need to know is that real whipped cream seldom gains the texture of the stiff fluffy stuff out of those cans or the "non dairy whipped topping". If you overbeat the cream, it gets a fatty mouthfeel.

I keep looking at those and wondered if they really worked as well as they seem to in the commercials. I may have to get one.

                    Have you tried an iSi?

I have one and use it when I have guests. I love it!!! But for making some at home, I also add about 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable gum - guar gum, xanthan gum... Thick'nThin has a good combo of both, but you can find the gums at any place that sells Bob's Red Mill products. Anyway, most commercial whipped creams have corn starch in them to make the cream stay whipped and not get runny - the gums do the same thing.

I've heard (And I haven't tried this yet, so don't quote me) you can add a TB or so of Sugar Free Instant Pudding to your whipped cream and it will help stabilize/thicken/flavor it.

Let me know how it works if anybody tries it. I'm trying to avoid the SWEET MONSTER as long as I can.

I don't like it for trying to "chop" things, like chopping onions or veggies for salsa like they show on the add...mine always turn to mush, but maybe I'm just not doing it right. It is great for making things like frozen drinks, whipped cream, sauces though, very quick and easy and really easy to clean up! Plus its small enough that I can keep it on the counter, unlike my blender which I have to drag out everytime I want to use it! I got mine on sale at Kmart for 49 bucks!

Sorry you didn't like yours Sarah, are you sure you had it screwed together properly? I've never had any issues with mine! and I've had it for months and use it probably ever other day at least!

Megs is right, don't over whip the cream...I made butter by accident! It was yummy, but not what I had planned on making!

Yup had it all on properly I just couldn't belive that they wouldn't replace it I won't buy another the warranty Bites ***. They said they would replace it on the phone I told them exactly what happened but, when it came down to it, they wouldn't that was 60 bucks down the toilet. I got my new Blender for 30 dollars and it works way better then that.
