I have actually never cooked a sirloin steak and if you would .....share your wonderful ideas please!!..I found some Angus Sirloin that are cut really thick and look like they might need to be marinated or something ..I hardly ever cook beef so it is always worrisome I will ruin it when I try! I do love it rare so if you know some wonderful recipe or style of cooking please post it!!! I would be grateful!!!

    Re: sirloin steak

Personally I find sirloin only worth it if it's a REALLY good one. Then I cross cut very thin and stir fry with broccoli and red peppers and Asian spice blend if I've got it, 1-2 minutes only. I never serve them as a steak, even marinated I find them tough, and difficult to flavor.

I also find sirloin fairly tough, but they go on sale alot (and they're really well priced at Costco), and I married a man who likes very well done steak (which is a sin to do to a good cut of beef IMO), so I do buy them. I usually just make a marinade of whatever i have in the house, Usually some red wine, worcestershire or soy sauce, dijon, and or red wine, or soy sauce a bit of olive oil, then add other stuff like cracked black pepper, garlic, chopped onion, onion powder etc. I usually marinate it in a big ziplock overnight. . I have seared it in a grill pan, but I find it's best cooked on a very hot bbq.

I bet a vinegar based salad dressing, like italian would be good too as a marinade.

sorry i don't have exact measurements, I usually just wing it.

I like grilling mine (I just had one for dinner tonight). Olive oil and Montreal Steak seasoning and onto the grill for about 2 minutes per side depending on thickness. I like mine medium-rare.

Im also not a lover of the sirloin. But.... when I do getone, I marinate the beejeezus out of it. Soy sauce and garlic. HEAVY on both. add a lil onion powder or ginger if the moods hits and marinateit at least overnight. Screaming hot pan andbarely cooking it, off the grill, wrap in foil for a few minutes so it rests in the foil and the juices stay with it.

            Re: sirloin steak

I have one store that carries sirloin that I actually like. Every time I buy it somewhere else, it's tough. I don't know why.

I usually fork it pretty well, spread A1 or Worcestershire sauce on both sides, along with freshly ground black pepper and salt, then a drizzle a little olive oil. Then let it sit out at room temp for about 20 min.

Grill on high to sear the meat then turn down to low and cook until done.

Sirloin is quite a popular cut of meat in england. When I have it, I sometimes like to fry it in butter, add some mushrooms and some cream and heat through. Then serve it up with a selection of veg.

Rich everyone says it is tough of you don't marinate it you dont find it tough?...maybe I will do a bulgogi style marinade ..but do you soak it all day should I do it now or is this one that I should do just a couple of hours prior to cooking it?

and then is it a meat once it is marinated ok rare? I do not like overcooked beef and would like to just sear it on the grill later if possible

I dont find it tough, but I do use a meat tenderizer. Do you use them?

                    Re: sirloin steak

whoops I just noticed Jen said overnight so I guess it is a long marinade I better start it now if I am going to make it tonight!!!

I know Barb wraps them in bacon but she has been working so I can not find out if she uses a marinade before doing that ...maybe I should do an Italian dressing one so the option of the bacon is there I have some pepper bacon that is wonderful ...but Asian marinade with pepper bacon sounds gross!!!

ok I will do a home made Italian style dressing now and put the steaks in it and then wrap them in bacon later?

argh I have not had enough coffee and beef sounds unappealing to me right now that is for sure!!!

do you mean the mechanical one that you hit the meat with or a spice kind of tenderizer like Adolfs?

I have the hammer one with the spikes on it I could beat the helll out of it I am sure!!!

I swear by vinegar to tenderize meats and the choice of italian dressing sounds like it would work best to me.

Thanks Terry I am thinking that is where I will go with this...but should I beat it with the tenderizer hammer I wonder?..I also have sour orange juice in there and could use that for the acid part of the marinade...I am kind of embarassed with all the foods I cook I justso rarely cook beef I seem to come here in a panic every time I have it in the house!

One of these. I have a metal one, but does the same.

Not sure what you mean with your adolf's comment, as I am not familiar with that.

Cool I have a metal one just like that and will use it..thanks! ...Adolf's is something they sell on the shelves in the spice section herethat is supposed to tenderize meat I think it is made from papaya enzymes but have never tried it ...

ok I think I am settled here and will try this now ...

beat the helll out of these with the tenderizer like Rich suggested then mix up the following

                              sour orange juice
                              oil
                              soy sauce
                              fresh garlic smashed
                              fresh ginger grated
a hand full of green onions minced
                              a shot of bourbon
                              and some fresh cracked pepper

put the steaks in a zippy bag then let it sit all day and flash grill on the hot fire tonight ...to rare ...then slice it thin and serve with lettuce leaves and some hot bean paste and toasted sesame seeds to wrap it up like bulgogi how does that sound?
