No, not ketchup, angelstar. It's a concentrated tomato product used for making all kinds of sauces, you can make your own ketchup out of it too.

We have pasata over here, that could be the same thing? Its just concentrated tomato paste with no pips. Nothing else added. I could use that.

I've found liquid smoke on a UK website but they are charging £5.95 delivery for a £1.75 product!!!

Tomato paste is usually way more concentrated and much stronger flavor. Check out the other products on that Hunt's link, angelstar, and you can see the diff in the two. There's tomato sauce, tomato paste and tomato puree and they're all different. I'm sure you could adjust the amount a little if you used paste and it would be fine.

Oohhh.. I think pasata is like puree... I cant think of any other way to describe it.

Its gona be a while until I can find/afford some liquid smoke so I wont be making this for a while

Me thinks Mommaglass should make a huge batch and ship it out to the UK!! hehe

my Jewish grandmother always poached her chickens with nothing but a little celery...some salt and pepper ..she said good chickens needed nothing ...she thought boiling them was an atrocity!!! we would have the broth with mazto balls and the chicken on a plate with red beet horseradish ...I loved the chicken meat as a kid but the soft mushy skin made me Kack!!!
