I am getting kind of excited here you guys ..I just let the chiles and the garlic and the ginger hit the oil and it smells so good in here ....

I took them out of the water and drained them I wish they had come with instructions!

OK the sauce is too insane to keep to myself

it is a Thai style curry I put together from what I have here ..so before I forget here you go this would be awesome on any seafood or fish ....i

        in a food processor

6 Thai bird chiles (fresh if possible)
        6 cloves of garlic
2 inch piece of fresh ginger
        2 tble madras curry powder
turn it into a paste in the food processor

saute the paste in 2 tbl oil mixed with 2 tbl clarified butter (or just use butter) add 1/4 cup good fish sauce, 2 tbl tamarind paste cook until it is all boiling add the seafood or in my case these little beasts cook for five min turn one time... ...and a handful of sliced red bell peppers and a handful of tomatoes ...turn around in the sauce then add a can of coconut milk and bring it to a boil.....this is to die for I promise

I have not had a crab yet I am letting them sit in the sauce for a while then will take them to the beach where they can be eaten in a proper place

it is usually in the Hispanic or Asian sections but if you have a Vietnamese or Some other Southeast Asian market you can find it there

Okay, great! I'll try this recipe this week if your taste test turns out well. I live in Ohio, so all I have is access to frozen. Since you're using frozen I'll give it a shot. I usually only get to have homemade crab in the summer when I visit my hometown & family on the east coast. Woot!! Crab for dinner!!! Yum.

ok the sauces was to die for but it would be better on shrimp or scallops or ever halibut ...the softshell crabs were not good cooked like this the texture was gross....I liked it much better tempura'd in sushi ......I am sure that the ones MOG made with the parm crust are much better ..they need a crispy crust I think...there is my review ....the texture was awful I am sad to say

I've only had them in sushi too. I wouldn't know how to eat them otherwise. Sorry it didn't work out.

                        Re: softshelled crabs are ....

The guts are edible. Just flip up each side of the top shell and remove the lungs and then take a uber sharp knife and cut off the face, crab eyes can be hard as rocks and break a tooth. Other than that it's all good. We used to fry them up in the restaraunt. I had to double batter them and then I held the legs all dangling down in the frier oil and let them get set and then slipped the whole thing in, at the same time flipping the thing on it's back. When it was browned and crispy i would dip the thing out and it would look like some multi-legged monster ready to scurry off the plate. Excellent presentation when topped with etouffe'.
And yes, spider rolls are nummy. I know this post was late and you have already ate them all up but I had to blab my mouth about them!

Fried Softshell crab is one of my most favorite foods. Has anyone tried frying them with any of the lowcarb flours? I miss them terribly!

Oh noes...daaaaaamm you Heidi, now I am craving soft shell crab!!

Soft shelled crabs are delicious. Although I admit...they look kinda creepy when not cooked!

Some years ago, I had lunch at a friends place, they'd bought what must have been half a barrel of crabs. The crabs were walking around IN THE SINK.

Fry them with almond flour and parmesean cheese and spices. They are no good any way except fried. And this is what they look like low carb style. BTW, if they aren't cleaned for you, you need to remove the eyes and the mouth before you cook them. And they are delicious low carb style!
