Can boiled eggs be frozen? (would save a lot of time cooking in bulk!)

I found out by accident - due to a fridge that over-cooled and froze the boiled eggs on the top shelf - they do not freeze well for eating as such. The water escapes the egg white, which shrivels into a rubbery, golf-ball looking-looking blech. But they are edible, just not as appealing.

ROTFL... ew yuck! I shouldn't freeze them then. I guess I could cook up a medium batch and just keep them in the fridge for 1-3 days.

I will never see an egg the same again...

Stomper, you won't believe what happened last night. I put boiled eggs (cooled of course) in the fridge. The temperature was too high, and my eggs got partially frozen. You're right, they end up looking like GOLF BALLS...yuck!

Luckily they were only partially frozen...the very outside, and not the entire surface. But ew!

Re: Eggs, eggs, and more eggs...

I eat hardboiled eggs almost everyday as a snack, with just a bit of salt.

My favorite way to eat eggs is a boiled omelette with Nature's Seasoning, shredded cheese, chopped serrano pepper, and red or green bell peppers. Sometimes I'll add taco meat (leftovers) to make it a mexican omelette.

Boiled omelette, you ask? It's the best friggin omelette I've ever had. Here's how you make it:

                1. Beat eggs in a small bowl (no more than 4). Add favorite fillers and ingredients.
                2. Pour into a reclosable sandwich bag (no oil or butter is neccessary), making sure the bag is completely sealed!
                3. Put in a pot of boiling water, turning occasionally. Poke and prod the bag every now and then to make sure there are no undercooked sections.
                4. You can let this boil and boil--usually I put this in when I start cooking bacon and just let it cook until the bacon is done.
                5. Once finished, open the bag, and the omelette slides out onto your plate.

This is the fluffiest omelette you will ever eat and none of it gets wasted in the pan! I will never make an omelette the old way again. )

Re: Eggs, eggs, and more eggs...

I do this alllll the time (Ziploc omelets), and they are FABULOUS. You can do many many of them at a time if you boil a big pot of water. You can make a special omelette for each family member by having each person put their own toppings into the bag. I don't even pre-mix the eggs in a bowl. I beat them around in the bag with the toppings to mix up the eggs and they come out delicious and fluffy. Tonight for dinner I made a ziploc omelet that had mozzarella, sliced baby bella mushrooms, and freshly grated McCormick steakhouse spices (the one that comes with the built-in grater). I cook mine for about 15 minutes but don't even watch it or poke it and it comes out fully-cooked and great.

I'm thinking about pre-cooking a ton of these and freezing them, so DH can nuke one on a paper plate in the microwave in the morning for breakfast when he's half-asleep (like those expensive frozen omelets that are at the grocery store, but better) or take one for lunch at work.

                    And talk about cheap!

If you haven't tried one of these, just give it a shot. You may be surprised at how neat it is.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.
