  • I would like to buy a hand blender

You guys are always so awesome in directing me when I want to get a new gadget ..and about every few months I have to treat myself ....it is time ..soup season is coming and I have been splurting soup out of blenders and food processors for far too long .....and things like the pumpkin porchini soup I am making today HURT WHEN THEY SPLURT!!!! So I want to buy a hand blender ...any advice? what kind should I look at? ...how much should I plan to pay? ..do you have one? ..how do you use it? ...I need heavy duty because I am hard on all my appliances (for example I have had/trashed three Kitchenaid mixers... )

so if you would be so kind as to enlighten me in the ways of a hand blender I would be grateful OOOXXX

You mean one of those immersion blender things? I had one once and found that the material needs to be really soft in order to get a very smooth puree. But they've probably improved since I had mine (about 12 years ago).

I don't have an immersion blender, but I do have a Vitamix. It's not as handy as an immersion blender, but it will liquify anything. I like to use it for creamy cauliflower soup, among other things.

I forgot to mention, it's virtually indestructable.

I have one and love it! I use it to make soups in the winter...and it's very easy to clean.

Mine is just a plain one with no attachments, but if i were to buy another i think I'd get one like this

Mines a Beaumark which i think is a cdn brand, it's about a mid priced one...cost about $35. I think you can get them for even around $10 now but not sure how good they are.

kitchenaid makes a decent home model. I have a monster commercial one made by waring.

Heidi, I have one that's made by black n decker. It comes with a few small attachments, one of which is a small whisk which is perfect for whipping cream! Anyway, I make all sorts of stuff with mine. I don't know how I ever did without it.

I don't know why I haven't thought of one of these. Actually I think I have an old one but I may just have to check into a nice new one. My treat to myself!

Re: I would like to buy a hand blender

I do not own one myself BUT I went to amazon.com to try and read some reviews for you and read a few tips while purchasing.
I'm not sure what kind of pans you use, but some are plastic some are metal bases, decide which you want rubbing on the bottom of your pans if that even matters. Some of these units come apart and can be washed in the dishwasher for better cleaning. I read about one that the button has to be held down while on the whole time, some have "dots" or whatever on these buttons and having to apply pressure instead of flipping it on and off was troublesome for some folks. Check mixing depth, one was only 4 inches and people commented that it wasnt enough for a soup pot. Mixing speed, some have only one, others may have 2 (high/low). The size of the base, do you plan on using this mainly for pans, or trying to insert it into a cup for smoothies?

Hope this helps your shopping, Sorry that I cannot recomend a model to you They seem to range from 10 bucks to about 50 with some coming with attachments. This is the one I saw most reviews for before I head to bed. Read more up on Amazon, arg wont let me list by most reviews. The kitchenaid also got good reviews, but was 50 bucks for just the blender itself with only like 48 comments, this one listed below has some 169 for 25 bucks.
